before my baby was born I had planned on giving birth at river ridge (birth centre in Hamilton). However since my thyroid levels were a little higher than normal I was advised I should have the birth at Waikato so that if anything did happen they would have everything on hand.
long story short after 2 hours of pushing I had an assisted birth ..ventouse cap..my (active) labour was only 7 hours.
did anyone who had their first in a hospital go onto have their 2nd in a birthing centre..if we do have a 2nd Id really love to have the birth at river ridge but also apprehensive I will need another assisted birth.
I delivered first time at a birthing centre, and I was definitely the minority of a first time mum going there. I'd say the majority of births there are 2nd time mums, so you wouldn't be alone there.
But it kinda does depend on your midwife though - because you had an assisted birth with your first they may recommend that you go to the hospital. It's hard to say.
Can I ask, did you have an epidural with your first?
i started at river ridge and got rushed into hospital. Critical.....Thank god for a good midwife :) We plan on getting pregnant in the next few months..........i want to have it at either waterford or riverride........although i have to have 2 specialist ..............im very determined to stay at the centre's as after last time the hospital freaks the c'ap out of me..........my midwife was an ex practice nurse and my mum is current RN which helped me heaps as a midwife without that ...well lets just say i diffently wouldnt be here.........my midwife knows this time what i want done and she understands why.........she has enough knowledge etc to guide me through and if things get hairy again then i dont fight her and do what she knows is best for me......
basically if you have all the faith in your midwife/dr then you will be ok especially in knowing its like 2mins away from the hospital which made me feel at ease........and my midwife drives like a trooper ...seen i refused ambulance haha
my first was born by ventouse but my second certainly didnt need any assistance - oh unless you count being induced... so i would say that one assisted birth doesnt necessarily mean another..
