right ..firstly I'm on weekly appointments with midwife..even though shes going away next week :( anyway... i have swelling..it came on quite suddenly and i have been to see mw about it when i was at the hospital the other day with her.. she took urine tests and swabs etc..and I'm assuming everything was fine except that there was 'a little bit' of protein in my urine so she sent it away for some special test...

anyway my question is how much swelling is normal..? I know it's hot and I know some swelling is normal..my feet and hands are swollen and a little painful:( the mw said i have 'a lot' of swelling but didnt suggest anything other than the usual stuff(rest elevation water) to help..which doesn't seem to be.. when should i be concerned? would it ever lead to me needing to have bubs early? (I'm 35 weeks thurs according to mw)

I'm going to the doc about my toe(long story) today so will ask him as well but wanted to know from people who have been through it.. oh and my BP has been up since 20 weeks but last three readings it's been perfect for me (120/75)....

If your MW isn't concerned then I wouldn't be concerned. The heat made my hands and feet swell a little and I was only a few months preggers last summer. If it got worse though I'd let her know and tell her that you are stressing about it. Then she can try and put your mind at ease more. If I told my MW i was stressing about something she would spend more time tending to my mind hehe

yeah i did ..i went on and on about it:) and she just said i cant really do anything and she will monitor me weekly..I'm like well if its not a problem why monitor me weekly:( but i know its cause of pre eclampsia etc but I just worry that i might develop it in the week before i see her..but i hear its ok as long as you are being closely monitored...:(

I think i will see what Tony(doc) says as well and then if I'm still worried call her.. she's always happy to take my calls but she's inducing people the next two days so don't wanna bother her unless i have to...

You should get worried if your face starts to swell. Thats when you should be checked out.

KA I have had some swelling too, couldnt fit my rings on yesterday but fine today?  We have had some hideously hot days here though which I think has alot to do with it, it is nice and cool and raining today!!  See what the dr says today anyway.

yeah i will.. I trust mw but i figure seeing as i have to go to the doc anyway I will just ask him..and then if he thinks its bad i will ring her.. seems a bit better since i drank some more water and had a shower.. while we are on the subject of babies...how come other people have BH's that are ok....mine are really uncomfy and can last for like 30 mins(i only have them once in a while) ..mw said that was fine...

i didnt even know that was what it was till i got hooked up to the machine ...i figured it was bubs turning..which i think has happened as well...boo...he needs to stay where he is:) !

With BH, while I was preggers most of the other girls in the june thread were having them pretty often and weren't that bad. I didn't have them that often at all (only got them in the final 2-3 weeks) but when they did come they were very uncomfy. So I'd say thats normal

KA, I got really painful BH as well and I also thought it was the position bubs was getting in as it felt more sore than anything but I would also get the other sort that was like a belt tightening across the bump. Supposedly they should be at the top of the bump but mine were always all over and I had them from about 20 weeks.

Hope the docs says everything is good, oh and everyone goes on weekly appointments around this time so I wouldn't be too concerned about that, and just remember 5 weeks wouldn't be that early, when I went in at 35W the hospital said that he should be fine apart from maybe needing to be kept extra warm and have a little trouble feeding cos of strength, plus if they induce you they will give you steriods first to help develop his lungs.

I saw my MW weekly from 34 weeks as I had a pre eclampsia watch on me.

Things to watch out for is the swelling progressing up your limbs. Mine started in my hands and feet and by the time I was induced my legs half way up my thighs were swollen and to my elbows. Any swelling on your face is not good. And blurred vision or stars in your eyes is not a good sign.

Hey kawww,

I had the same worries a few weeks ago (in a thread called pre eclampsia or something like that). I still have hardout swelling in feet and hands, and lots of fluid in my legs. I also had a puffy face. My bp was up from normal too. I had protein in my urine, and I too was stressing about it....

But with all this, blood results came back fine.

I think the protein was due to a bit of CM getting on the test through the wee, cos next time I did it I wiped first (!) and then peed. And it was fine. I think the puffy face was due to hayfever cos I was staying in a different town. And the high bp went down straight after I finished work!

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much cos that will just make you feel worse. I know it's in limbo a bit til you get the blood results back, so try to find something to distract yourself!!

But just to let you know - I had what you have and I was stressing and ended up getting really upset about it... but it was all fine.   And it will probably be all fine for you too. Just wait til you get your bloods back, and if there's a problem then you'll deal with it then

I had exactly the same thing in the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy. I had blood tests weekly that came back all ok. I just made the most of it and put my feet up and watched heaps of DVDs. I'm pleased I did, because I haven't been able to relax like that since

The best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy
