    Posted: 04 January 2008 at 6:26pm
As some of you will know, my m/w is basically useless and doesn't tell me anything useful other than that baby is too small (scans say he's fine and we've had to live week by week with the threat of inducement) or that he has a cardiac condition (which 2 heart scans have shown he doesn't).

One thing she hasn't told me though is the plan of attack if I go overdue (ie. I'm overdue as of tomorrow! ) When I saw her on Wednesday, she booked another appt for next Wednesday (40w5d), but earlier told me that they like to induce between 8-10 days over. Surely the hospital would expect that she would have done a S&S etc before then to get things moving naturally?

I was told from about 37w that I won't be let go overdue as bubs growth has never been particularly great (hence fortnightly growth scans) and they don't want to risk him not getting nutrients from the lack of fluid. Yet I'll be at least 41w by the time they do something if baby doesn't come naturally? Weird...

And the m/w told me that basically bubs is trying to get out but my cervix isn't ripe, yet she won't let me take anything (EPO etc) to help. I've been walking which has caused me even more pain (been having constant pains for over a week now, with excruciating BH every so often) and even tried sex which did nothing but give me more BH.

Sorry for the rant, anyway, does anyone know the general plan of attack for going overdue and when you're supposed to be seen etc? I'm hoping this isn't the case and that I'll go naturally VERY SOON but I want to know what I might be looking at so I can talk to my m/w without being shafted yet again.

Sorry I don't know but I saw you'd posted so I jumped on to see if it was good news - I think from memory my friend was seen twice in the week she was due but I could be wrong there.

I could ask my MW when I see her early next week but I really really hope that you'll have the baby by then.

Big hugs! this must be so frustrating given all you've been through and the fact that you've had those huge BH's. Lots of labour vibes!

I'd just take the EPO! Poke a hole in them with a needle and insert them in your VJJ. I think my friend did 3 up (oral) and 4 down (vaginal) and went into labour a few hours later.

Otherwise i'd be changing midwives!

Good luck though!

I would just take the EPO as well, I didn't tell my MW that i was taking them I just did. I also took the naturopharm prebirth spray.

As Daniel was a week early I can't really help on the overdue front

they definetly are BHs a?

well I cant help much, I went 8 days over, but caitlyn was growing fine so there was no need to worry, but since they've said they wont let you go over, then you should mention it again to your mw, is there a chance they think your dates arent right or something?

Hopefully things will start happening very soon ....

Where do you buy EPO from? A healthstore or something or can you get it from the supermarket? I'm really willing to try anything, I'm so uncomfortable and DH goes back to work on Monday if bubs hasn't arrived and then I'll be all by myself Although I've got a good book at the moment that I can see myself sitting there reading all day long...

My MW said today that if nothings happened by my due date, she'll do a S&S and I can take castor oil. My friend swears by the castor oil thing, but you'll want to read up on it first.

I'm guessing EPO from the healthstore?? Although supermarkets do have a lot these days... hmm I'd like to hear this answer too cos that's something I want to try as well.

Good luck! Hope your little one starts making an appearance soon!

any health food store will have it. My MW recommended it but I didnt want to bring on bubs before he was ready incase I jinxed things (silly me). I went a week over and was too damn sick to care at that stage (bad flu).

I was with an OB as well and she said right at the beginning that babies rarely come on time and booked one of my ante natal appointments for 8 days after my due date with views to talking inducement then. As it was I went into spontaneous labour at 41 weeks. I had about 2 days of BH that were irregular but quite strong (although in hindsight they werent strong)

If you are worried how about ringing CHCH womens (you are in chch arent you?) and asking what options you have.....but they will probably assume you are like every other mum and wanting bubs out ASAP (which I am not saying you are)

Fingers crossed bubs just comes naturally shortly and is a nice healthy weight (with a nice small head- that can grow later )

CWH won't do anything because bubs is still just within normal range for growth (his tummy's small which means he wasn't getting enough nutrients for a while).

Will go to countdown tonight and see if I can get some EPO. It just seems like I've been pregnant forever as my first EDD was 15/12/07 and they put it back 3 weeks till now! I am lucky that I'm not huge, but its about time this little one made his way out!

(Oh, and his head is measuring about 41w as of today (last growth scan hopefully) so I don't want him in for another couple of weeks )

Might look for some castor oil too... ew I'm already dreading it!

Personally, I wouldn't take castor oil! It is a very old fashioned way of inducing labour, which can be very dangerous for you and bubs.
It causes contractions by making your bowels overactive and chances are you will be on the toilet all night after taking it.
Both of my midwives have been very against it as a way of coaxing bubs out, which is why I'm passing this on, please at least google castor oil + labour before taking it so you know what effects it might have.
EPO is safe after 37 weeks for ripening the cervix and can also help to prevent tearing.
Raspberry leaf tea and tablets are recommended for toning the uterus as well.
I hope things start happening for you really quickly Emz, it must be so frustrating for you having to wait like this!
All the best chick xx

My midwife told me the same thing as caraMels about castor oil. I personally wouldn't use it, maybe try one of the other options instead! Last thing you want is to be on the toilet all night long!
Good luck hope something happens soon

I've heard of castor oil - you don't actually need to drink it either, from what I've heard just rubbing it on your tummy will do the trick.
Can't help on the overdue front either as I was early and blame licorice for that
I did actually read licorice can bring on labour but it takes about a week or so - still may be worth a try if you like licorice

Get lots of Black licorice and EPO. Take some EPO orally and put some up you as well. Put a liner or pad on after up put them up you. And do it tonight. Raspberry leaf tea will help with your uterus.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

You know what i did ? jumped off the bottom step, I think it scared Caitlyn so much she decided to get out of there, my friend did that too (not that I advised her or anything :-P )

Get stuck into the book Emz...murphys law says bubs will start to make their appearance when your enjoying a book, or a movie, or dinner or something :-)

Grr I posted a reply last night, but it clearly didn't work! Anyway, did the EPO last night, so I'll just play the waiting game. Got 30 tabs (all the budget could afford at the moment!) which will give me 4 nights anyway. Here's hoping! I'm missing my friends wedding today because of this stupid pain, at least if I was in labour I wouldn't mind so much!
