Topic: Wind/Gas(TMI) Posted: 01 January 2008 at 8:44am |
Every afternoon/night I get such horrible gas and it sits right under my ribs and makes my tummy feel hard as a rock. Its so painful sometimes it has me crawling on the floor, I have to get DF to rub my back for ages until it shifts and I can pass wind( I cant burp lol) Im too scared to take too many mylanta pills as it says if your pregnant then only to take the one or two pills. I have suffered from wind all my life and as a baby I had bad collic.
Could it be what Im eating? Should I cut back on bread and stuff like that?
Last night I was crying cos I was so uncomfortable, plus I had a headache I felt awful
Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated

Are you allowed to take degas tablets??? That maybe worth asking a pharmacist cause they are great at getting rid of wind

I went to the chemist this morning and he gave me this oral spray for babies that have collic, its some natural stuff that he said is totally harmless to pregnant women, he said for me to try this first if that doesnt work then to try this other stuff, he also said for me to continue taking mylanta aswell.
This stuff is called Colimed Relief by Naturo Pharm.
So we shall see how it works!

Don't drink apple juice... that's all I can say.
Wellll... that's what gave me terrible wind anyway! My tummy hurt so much and I couldn't sleep. Wish I'd figured it out sooner than I did!

Can you take charcoal tablets?
They worked a treat for me when my IBS was causing painful wind buildups.

I take peppermint capsules for my IBS and they help. Good ones are Colpermin (sp?) have no idea if they are safe or not but might be worth a go if the spray doesn't work.

Im going to mention it to my midwife and see what she says next Tuesday aswell. I just had a horrible wind attack just before, but my pharmacist made a good point, he said that cos all the muscles in my tummy are stretching and accomodating the baby that it makes the wind pain worse cos my tummy is bloating and pushing on the muscles! Makes sense.
This time tho the pain was actually across the top of my tummy and felt like my ligaments were getting stretched, could that have been round ligament pain?

Since it's been an 'all your life' thing I just wonder (from things I've heard about other OB babies in recent months) if it would be worth seeing an osteopath and make sure everything is all lined up properly? No personal experience, just an idea that crossed my mind. If it would help, I wonder if your mw could refer you under maternity care?

Maybe....I'll ask her. An osteopath isnt the one that hurts the crap out of you aye? lol
I think a lot of it has to do with what I eat, I have a lot of toast and my mum had to stop eating white bread cos she was getting bad wind(not while pregnant, this was a year or so back) and now she is a lot better so maybe I'll try just haveing musli and yougart for brekkie and not have white bread for a while and see if it makes any difference.

Maybe look into other foods that can cause bad wind - I know cucumber is often a culprit for people. I hope you find something that helps soon, doesn't sound nice at all!

I have IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) and can't have white bread or grainy bread, only wholemeal, and am not supposed to eat any refined foods like white flour, pasta, white rice etc. My main issue is diarrhoea (sorry TMI) but with that came wind. It's not very nice huh? Eating a good wholemeal cereal (weet-bix is one of the best) every morning with low-fat or half/half milk helps me a lot, don't know if it would be worth a try or not.
