Hi everyone,
Just after some advice on travelling and flying while pregnant. I have some indications that I could possibly be pregnant, but have an overseas holiday booked. Has anyone else had any problems travelling etc. I don't really want to cancel my travel, but I dont' want to go and be really uncomfortable etc. Thanks to anyone who can offer advice :)

I flew twice during my last pregnancy, first time to Australia at about 8 weeks pregnant, and again at about 5 months to fiji. I never had any problems with the flights. I did however find fiji really hot and because of this I feel I didnt really enjoy it as much.

Im planning to fly again end of Feb (due end of June) to Australia, and im also flying auck-chch mid feb.

I flew long haul from Europe - Japan - New Zealand at 3 - 4 weeks pregnant. It was the bad 'jet lag' that suggested I should do a test

I've flown domestically in NZ at 4 months and I'm flying again at Christmas when I'll be 30/31 weeks.

None of these were a problem. The only precaution I'll be taking at Xmas is carrying my maternity notes with me 'just in case'.

I flew at 31 1/2 weeks pregnant from NZ to the UK- 29 hour flight Isn't something I would recommend but it can be done! I wore travel socks and drank lots of water- I was uncomfortable and tired but I survived

Yep I flew to and from oz at 17/18 weeks - my biggest concern was travel sickness as I still had moments where I felt yucky but I was fine.

I think it would partially depend on where you were going to. If it were some place that you need heaps of shots for or anything like that I think I'd be inclined to pass it up (or at least discuss with your doctor).

I flew from New Zealand to Saudi Arabia which are two long flights at around 35 weeks. I wore the socks but my feet and ankles really swelled up and I couldn't get comfortable in the seats as my belly was so huge!

I flew to Australia when I was 11 weeks and was fine, and will be there for Xmas from 34 to 36 weeks.  I have to take my maternity notes and tonight bought support stockings $62.00 phew....  but I think it's well worth it as my ankles are swelling now so I'll get good use from them.

I flew from Japan to aus, and then onto nz at 34 weeks - i needed a certificate from my doctor to say i was safe to fly - well from japan to NZ I did, freedom air didn't care. I flew at 4 months from japan to thailand and was fine, and flew again at 32 weeks with a one year old and my "helper" who had a crook back and needed suport. lots of fun! But I was fine. My in laws were freaked about me travelling and each time drove me from the airport to a doctor who at all times found me to be in excellent health.

BUT I had dream pregnancies, kept active throughout and was probably the healthiest I have ever been. Although I certainly wouldn't cancel a holiday, i would be wary that problems can arise like high blood pressure that would make flying not a good idea. talk it over with your midwife closer to the time.

Thanks everyone for your help. We had booked a trip to the UK for June next year, and have just discovered I am possibly preg, so going by that I would be approx 8 mths pregnant, so we are going to change the dates cos we still want to go away, but will make it for maybe March/April and will only be to Hong Kong and Singapore, poss oz, not all the way to the UK now. Thanks for all your help though, makes me feel better now :)
