so went to the midwife...firstly my iron is down from 137 to 117..and ferritin is 8 but because the other number is ok she's just watching things at the moment...

then she confirmed I have Strep B.which even if it goes away I have oral anitbiotics till labour then IV..

oh and i have to go by first scan date 14th feb even though i know he is 5 days ahead of that and always has been

then my BP was up to 140/80(she's watching carefully to make sure it doesn't go over 80..started at 120)

then it says my neutrophils are up from last time (no idea what that means cant be that bad or she would have said something)

then my GD test said i am 8.8 and it needs to be under 7.7 so have to fast over night? (QUESTION? ) I think the lady said 12 hour fasting and then water..so no water during that 12 hours? just sounds depressing if i fail it and the special diet doesnt work then I have to have insulin but she did say babies are normally fine when the condition is caught..

then she said baby is breech..though half or all babies are breech at this stage..(explains the uncomfortableness in my chest)

he is a 'good size' and I've only put on a kg according to her and heart etc was good so thats something.. so all in all I'm feeling really down actually..:( and DH is working till 8pm tonight so that sucks every more...

*thanks for listening to my rant*:)

OK I managed to fail my first diabetes test and had to have a glucose tolerance test. From memory, I had to fast for 12 hours before the test, then drink the glucose drink and have a bloodtest, then a blood test an hour later and another after 2 hours. The lab will confirm what you need to do by way of fasting when you ring to book the test, but I had to fast completely no food or drink for the 12 hours. Make sure you have 2 hours to do the test, they wouldn't let me go anywhere between bloodtests.
And make sure they know it is a 2 hour test. I booked mine for 10am on Sat morning, when i arrived I was told that it was deeply inconvenient as they closed at 12, to which I replied that thye gave me the appointment and wondered who dared argue with a heavily pregnant woman who hadn't eaten for 12 hours

Kawww, I also have high BP and some bloods that have come back exceeding the normal levels and have just been referred to the hospital for further tests and checks. I freaked out at first and was in tears for a few days but after a while I decided that if all the tests and hassles can help me bring a healthy baby into this world then they're all worth it.

From my close family alone, 2 of the women have failed their first GD test but have gone on to be fine in the second test so try not to worry too much at this stage.

Oh, and my baby was sitting breech at 29 weeks and by week 31 it had turned and was sitting head down so there is still plenty of time.

I was feeling pretty down like you are because of a lot of issues piling up at once, but one by one you deal with them and it all doesn't seem so bad then. All the best for your GD test

Okay take a deep breath....

On the iron front as you (i am assuming) iron saturation is fine at the moment but ferritin is slightly low you could try taking some gentle iron tabs (i got some from the health shop). You iron saturation is the storage iron which is used up after the ferritin drops, if this starts to drop too low they will probably suggest stronger iron tabs then. I was in the same situation.

Neutrophils always increase in pregnancy, labs change their reference range to encompass this. If they are still within normal limits then thats fine (remembering normal is 95% of population so you could be slightly higher than normal but be normal for you!)

Don't worry too much about your due date not being the 5 days ahead as babies rarely come on the due date, just as long as babe is growing well and is healthy.

I am suprised that you can't have a little water with your glucose test, a few sips in the night won't make any difference to the test result. My GD test was low 3.4 so i thought i could just eat more chocolate, haha

As Amber pointed out, babies can turn late so you still have a few weeks left for this to happen.

All in all don't stress, take things a day at a time and just deal with things as they happen. I know it is easier said than done but try to relax and just enjoy your pregnancy.

I know what you mean about everything at once. I didn't have any poblems at all until a week and a half ago. Up until then I was having a perfect pregnancy, then it all came at the same time Typical though! I think if it were just one thing it'd be a lot easier to deal with.

And I agree with you about living in a time where nearly every problem has a solution. We're really lucky there.

Hey Kawwww, I had to do the nasty glucose tolerance test and I am pretty sure you can still have water but no black tea or coffee. Ask again. It is horrible because you are so hungry and grumpy. Try and go during the week as I went to Southern Labs on Durham st on a sat and even though I was booked in I still had to be seen in order of arrival (so all those that just pop in for blood tests were seen ahead of me). It was an hour later before I was seen and then 2 hours waiting and for some of that I had to sit on a hard chair as there were not enough. Youd think some lazy sod would have offered a pregnant woman their chair!

By the time they took my second tests I was beside myself and burst into tears as they couldnt find a vein. This strategy does get you some bickies though.

Good luck. Oh and the drink is fine. Very sweet but ok.

as far as the iron i have not been able to sleep through the night since getting pregnant..but had a very high iron count before and so it's not related tot hat and i can go straight back to sleep(apparently thats a sign if you cant) so she is just monitoring it..i have the tablets but we are holding off for two weeks to see what happens.. I'm not sure how she will measure it after that...?

the neutrophils went from 7.5(63) at 8 weeks to 12.6(75%) ..midwife always mentions things that are important so I'm not too worried about that one..

yep growing well and healthy :) so that's good.. im pretty sure she said fast for 12 hours then only water...but im going in at 8am so not much point as it will be 730pm-8am when I'm not eating and then only 30 mins till test but hopefully the lemonadey stuff wont make me sick..I'll ask about water when i get there..2 hours..boring!:) as far as relaxing goes...since i had the missed miscarriage last time I've struggled to relax this time but I'm getting better..I am trying:)

yeah amber me too..i had the odd problem ..tooth etc..but nothing that bothered me too much then bang..:( still at least i go fortnightly now i guess..

I'm going tomorrow..to get it over with :) that sucks that you didnt get to sit down on a nice chair..they even gave me a pillow for the first test:) !

Lol..so I'll practice my pretend tears..shouldn't be too hard..I'm not normally a crier but no food and being pregnant should help me look very sad:) !

yeah the first drink i had was fine..i thought it would be awful but it was just sugary and made me feel a bit icky cause i hadnt eaten much... i just feel crappy i guess as one friend of mine who is pregnant said noone ever fails (and she eats VERY badly and never ever exercises) and even she passed the test first time!

Try not to worry about bubs being breech, it's completely beyond your control. I was stressed out at the thought of c-sect as my baby had been breech the whole pregnancy, but resigned myself to the fact it was a possibility and just informed myself of what could happen. They won't even worry about it until about 37/38 weeks when they could try ECV and will then book you for a c/s if that fails. Mine only just turned a week or so ago, so should have a VB.

Trust me, having everything happen at once is better than something happening every 3-4 weeks. I've disliked this whole pregnancy because there's always something that comes up that needs a new test or scan. It can be very tiring so I feel for you.

Yeah ditto what emz says - the baby often turns and if it doesn't remember it's not your fault (despite what people start inferring ) And meanwhile there are pluses - you won't get so many wakeups in the night due to the baby pushing on your bladder for one. There were heaps of breech babies around January (here an at my AN class) and they've almost all turned now.

The iron should be easily sorted if it drops too low (and on the plus side at least it's getting monitored now) and I'd recommend seeing if you can get a script for thrush medication if you're going to be on antibiotics.

It does suck that you've had all this happen at one time but hopefully these things will resolve themselves shortly (well the ones that can) and you'll get to enjoy the final bit of pregnancy a bit more.

emz....i had a tooth that had to be fixed..then antibiotics i had to take..then the stupid filling fractured and had to go back and now all this:( it sucks..:(

I'm not that concerned about a c-section..obviously i would rather not but I'm not one of those people who is desperately concerned if i need to have one at least him being breech explains my uncomfortableness lately..

bobbie-yeah im awake to pee a lot less now..just awake once a night to get comfortable..so yes at least there is a plus:) ! I've already been on antibiotics.. had the thrush before that and managed to get rid of it and it hasnt come back so thats good:)

I haven't enjoyed pregnancy at all...and I'm not ashamed to say it anymore..I'm so thankful i get to have a baby but not ashamed to admit I'm not one of those people who have loved it :) !

My baby was apparently head down and then turned breech at 35 weeks. c/s aren't that bad just have a read up incase it happens, they don't tend to cover them very well at ante natal and I can always PM you the gorey details of mine...lol.
I had to take antibiotics cos of my waters breaking and I had low iron and had to take tabs for that as well.
My whole pregnancy had been going swimmingly (apart from the normal niggles) until 35 weeks then turned to custard so I know how that feels too.
Each time I went into false labour I got starved and then they wondered why my iron was low. Perhaps if I was being starved every other day I would have been alright.
If you have a c/s you can't eat or drink anything for 12 hours before and if you are in labour and they think you might need one they won't let you eat.

Hey bobbie I know what you mean about people inferring stuff, I even had my SIL say to me "well you get out of the pain of child birth now". Yeah I just get to have major surgery instead

I'm glad (in a way ) that someone else feels the same way. I got told by my cousin that I SHOULD be enjoying this pregnancy and the only other person she knew who didn't, never wanted her children anyway! So according to my cousin (who has never had children) I don't love my baby. Whereas we know that for some people, pregnancy just isn't that fun

I guess one good thing that I tell myself when I get bad news is that at least they know about these things now so they can be fully prepared for your labour and birthing experience. Good luck chick!

I don't enjoy pregnancy. What's to enjoy? You get to share your body with a parasitic creature leeching all your energy, daily throw-up sessions, get to be the size of a house, all your pelvic joints take a vacation and then you get to give birth! The whole thing sucks! I am eternally jealous of people who sail thru pregnancy, then again, if I didn't suck at pregnancy so badly I'd probably have 10 kids lol!

Kawwww, I wouldn't worry too much about the dates, 5 days is neither here nor there and bubs will come when bubs is ready. They put my due date back 10 days with Maya and she arrived on her original due date by my LMP. If you do go over they'll do a scan every few days to check placental function so there's no risk to bub from the date being a few days out.

The GTT sucks, but you can have water right thru, I even drank water during the two hour waiting period at the lab coz with the ptyalism I get a very dry mouth and lips and have to sip water often. Just don't do what I did and spew up the drink they give you - it means you have to come back all over again!

Re: the iron, I'd be cautious and start taking ferrograd now, it can't do any harm and better for you to have a bit of reserve before delivery. My levels got as low as 4 at 34 weeks with the gremlins and my m/w was freaking out big time!

Hey Kawww, forgot to say it is perfectly alright to not enjoy being pregnant, it is pretty horrible at times. The only bit I ever really enjoyed was feeling him kick, everything else pretty much sucked.
Is all totally worth it in the end though, although sometimes in those first few weeks I was wishing he was back inside so I could get some sleep

cuppatea:( yeah people say some silly things.. i got the feeling from AN that they didn't like you eating during labour anyway as she said they feed you after just tea and toast or something to make sure you aren't going to throw up and then you can eat properly..guess it just depends...yes i do intend to read all about c-sections!

emz that's awful...why would someone say something so stupid and horrible..man some people make me mad:( i used to be ashamed to admit it but then i realised it doesn't make me any less thankful to be pregnant or love him any less it just means I'm not loving the process... i got told i should 'love my first pregnancy , it's the others that are awful 'by someone yesterday..I just used my smile and nod face!

maya even if it was perfect I'd still just have two so i dont have that worry but yes i have it easy compared to you and the throwing up etc.. :( that's good to know they will keep checking placenta...there's just so many things they need to watch later on..but at least I'm getting the best care:) My midwife is fantastic now!

as far as spewing i will try not to:) i just got some iron things from chemist i think they are called ferrograd...why didn't they have you taking something before then? It's annoying cause I've always had super iron as well(i give blood so i know) !!!

cuppatea..yeah i worry about the sleep thing as i dont get enough now..but as nzpiper said she is getting better sleep after he was born because she was getting deeper sleep..hope that's the same with me:) ! i mostly just dont like how im a different person..more grumpy etc..i dont mind the physical growth or the kicking but that's about it:)

Hey Kawww, drink some kiwi juice with the iron tablets as they can tend to make you constipated. I found out i've got low iron so I'm on them again, bloody stupid AF!!! They won't let me give blood out here incase i've got mad cows disease
