I am going to talk to my MW and see if this is an option for me. I am huge and overdue, just want to get bubs out, it's really affecting me and my marriage, DH have been arguing heaps and we both are sick and tired of waiting .

Have you or anyone you know of been induced? if so, what did they do?

I was induced at 10 days over. My LMC used the gel on my but the prep stuff was enough for me to go into labour so I probably would have by myself anyway.

You could have a chat to your midwife but the bad news is that unless there are medical grounds to induce they normally don't until around the 10 day mark.

Yup, I was induced at 12 days overdue. I had the gel, first lot inserted at 8pm (with latent contractions starting at 10pm), second lot at 8am the next day and third lot at 12pm (which pushed me into active labour) and then membranes ruptured at 7pm. Contractions were 'bearable' (I say that loosely ) until my waters were broken, at which point I demanded an epidural. The time they finally got it in I was fully dilated (go figure!).

I didn't find it bad, but I had complications unrelated to the induction process. The more ready your body is, the easier the induction will be (if that makes sense...?!)

Just beg and cry, I'm sure that will get the MW into action

you're only over by 2 days...make the most of it and date your husband as much as poss before baby puts a stop to all that. go to the movies, dinner, visit friends. a baby will be here soon enough.

oh and my first was over by 2 weeks and my second 2 weeks 3 days.

I was induced at 9 days over. I had high blood pressure which was what made them do it - otherwise they were making me wait until 13 days.

I had nothing to compare the labour to - but my midwife (who was not present) said that I could have had a much better birth - she felt sorry for me. I never intended to have such a 'medical' birth, and would avoid it in the future if possible. It is hard work being strapped to a monitor the whole time, and stuck on a bed...

Having said that, I was glad to get this baby out and having nothing to compare to, means I didn't know it was that bad!

I know that I am only "2 days over", but why did my MW suggest is last week if it's not going to happen??

My only concern is how big is this baby going to be when it eventually comes out, it is still growing, so maybe 11 lbs???

I had an appt with my midwife on my due date and she asked if i wanted to book in for an induction and said i could anytime from then if they had space. I booked it for a week over but had a S&S 5 days over. I went into labour naturally 6 days overdue.

I think it must depend on your area as to when they allow you to book an induction, when you get to 2 weeks over i think they suggest it.

Ditto with me too!
I was induced both times with my first i was 14 days over due grrrhhhh! and once they broke my waters it was all on, but had a blissful birth because I had an epidural.
2nd time induced on due date due to not being able to keep food down, latent labour pains bearable got to 5cm dilation then the broke my waters and ... - ouch! within 3 hours Eva was born without an epidural boo hoo!
I totally understand going nuts being over due! I was at my wits end waiting! seriously put the tears on for the midwife and tell her it's stressing you out...but you didn't hear that from me!

Fully agree with GandT make the most of it!!
A) It helps you not think about it - keep yourself busy
and
B) you will never not have children again! or be in a position to sponatneously go out and do something for yourself.

Seriously...enjoy it - you will never be untied from the responsibility of looking after your children for the next 20 years. Go have a manicure - watch every movie in the cinemas - I don't even remember what a cinema looks like

Best Wishes to you!
xx

I have a 23 month old now that keeps me very busy!

Will ring the MW and see what my options are for here in Christchurch.

Had a S&S done yesterday, and to tell the truth, having some pains now in my cervix! yay, bring it on!

Oooh good luck Lisha!

The stamping the feet and crying worked for me with the gremlins. I was induced at 37 weeks even tho the OB wanted to wait till 38 weeks and there was no medical reason to induce at 37 other than that I was huge and uncomfortable and incredibly stressed out so it was really for my own mental health

Here's hoping bubs arrives soon and you don't need to be induced!

I will be crying if I end up overdue with this bubs with Maya and the gremlins all being born early I've been spoilt!

Lisha, we were told at AN classes recently that here in Chch they particularly like to wait at least until 2 weeks overdue because of the bed shortage, and the fact that you have to keep on coming into Chch Women's to get the gel and to be monitored when they're so busy. But I hope with such a big baby your m/w might reconsider! I hope so for your sake anyway. And yeah, not too sure why everyone's saying enjoy your baby free time, you already have Lucy!

Haha thanks maya and emz! I will ring the MW tomorrow and see what she says. It is very emotional being this huge and bubs is doing nothing, not even moving that much, see it has run out of room, better reason to come out aye!

I have to go to womans this time round for medical reasons, so is that one step in the door anyway?

Hey Lisha, I suggest doing lunges and squat thrusts, get that heading banging on that cervix and induce yourself. I would also try eating curry whilst having sex....lol. Anything and everything (and all at once) has gotta be worth a try.

I was induced at only 4 days over but its because there wasn't enough fluid around Char. Good thing about having a specialist who scans you each time I guess. I haven't heard of a midwife who will induce before 2 weeks but I hope yours is a little more flexible!
