I did have a look on the websites but it seems there is no benefit for my circumstances. Bugga. Not a good time to be receiving no money for over a month- Damn Christmas!

You could apply for the sickness benefit.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Not sure but on the forms for the sickness benefit is a section if you are pregnant. I remember when I was working for Student Services (years ago now) that if you were out of work and didn't have any other children you could apply for it.

'If you are pregnant you may be able to get a Sickness Benefit from your 27th week, or earlier if you have complications. Your payments can continue for up to 13 weeks after the birth if you are caring for the child.'

just found that..topsy might be worth us looking into it..

I would say it would depend on your partners income.

yeah and as he is paid on a casual wage ...even though that accounts for holiday and sick pay at the same time we will be over the threshold..

yup it is dependent on partners income. and i am pretty sure the threshold is quite low too. when i was pg with tash df earned too much for me to be able to get it.

Hmm it seems like everybody will be receiving very cheap, small Xmas presents this year. You and your partner can only earn up to $80 a week otherwise you get nuffing. Oh well, hopefully baby will make a slightly early arrival!

I hear you on this one Topsy - my last payments about the same time (although its the loan, not a payment as such) so I'm hoping bubs doesn't get too comfy and stay in. Especially since I don't get paid maternity leave from my job (only been there 5 months to my EDD), and we really need that for the mortgage!

My family don't expect pressies this year, would've been nice to tell me that before I went out and bought most of them!

I got your PM and replied... just wanted to say that I get *some* money for being on sickness benefit, although not the full amount, since DH works full time and earns 23,000 a year before tax (which isn't a lot especially since we are both paying off loans) But my WINZ person said that when we shift house in December we will get more, as our rent will be increased... she also said that I could go on the working for families benefit then (which I am very confused about as I am not due until the end of Jan)!?

Even though you probably won't be eligible for much under the sickness benefit, the amount will be increased if you are eligible for accommodation supplement as well.

The best idea is to book an appointment with someone at WINZ, and take in proof of income for your partner and yourself... and ask them what you are eligible for. I tried to work it out from the website and I thought I wasn't able to get anything either, when actually I had a couple of options.

Still can't afford to buy Chrissy pressies tho so we are going to make truffles and cookies for everyone and wrap them up pretty instead
