Topic: Excited vs Terrified Posted: 13 October 2007 at 6:12pm |
So it seems things might be starting to move along with the impending arrival of our wee man. I have had several small "shows" today, and am feeling increasingly uncomfortable with a continous pain in my lower tummy now. Its not much fun....but the wheaty bag is helping it. Have been laying down (seems the most comfortable position!) and trying to figure out is I am really excited now or absolutley terrified?!?
How did other people feel at this point?

I was excited like Christmas was coming,...but freaked out at the same time! Good luck!

I had an elective c/s and the night before couldn't sleep, was super excited about being able to meet my baby the next day, but was also super scared about the surgery.
Good luck you get to meet your baby soon

Sounds like you'll be meeting your little baby in 24 hours or so, it's very exciting but fair enough for being nervous/scared. Remember to let your support people know how you are feeling so they can reassure you and things can move along. All the very best!

wow that is exciting! i was induced both times so i didnt have the natural things happen. but i do remember being so overwhelmed when i was told i was to be induced that i burst into tears - and a strange twist of fate, the same nurse comforted me BOTH times, as my support people werent there at the time.
good luck, i hope it goes well for you, and before you know it your beautiful bubba will be here with you. i hope you have a text buddy who you can let know the arrival, and they can let us know!!! cos i am super impatient

I was over waiting. I had been in hospital for like 3 days and just wanted her out.
So, not terrified and not excited really

Thanks for all the kind words of support....
I have stopped thinking about "the next stage" as DH suggested I am just going to worry myself silly!
Does anyone know how long it normally takes (if there is such a thing as "norma") between having a "show" and labour actually starting?

Not sure about time between show and labour - I think it varies...I didn't get a 'show' until I was 8cm dilated!!

Very excited.. and terrified!!! Knowing that I was going to have a baby within a day, but terrified of the unknown = birth etc. Lucy was 3 weeks early so I didn't have to go full term! All the best!

SimSam I am waiting for your text! Will definately come back here in the morning and update everyone when I hear from you That is unless my baby decides to come tonight - fat chance, no signs at all yet unfortunately for me!!
Good luck Sam, by the way I would imagine its pretty normal to be excited, terrified, and every other emotion under the sun, I'm pretty sure I will feel the same way, to some degree I already do!!

The time between your show and labour starting is very individual - just like all things with pregnancy, labour and birth.
I had my show, waters breaking and starting contractions all within 5mins of each other, but my labour was only 3.5hrs all up.
Good luck with everything, and its normal to be both excited and terrified - just go with the flow and trust your support people.

oooh good luck.
I had a show before i had paris.. 5 days before. I spent that day feeling uncomfy as heck, very "weird" and nervous, and continued to feel like that all over the weekend with what i thought were painful braxton hicks, was sure at one point my waters were leaking little bits. but then woke up one morning, got up to loo, went back to bed and pop, waters broke and contractions and hour later. Unfortunately a show can mean that labour is maybe 2 weeks away.. or it could not even happen until you are in labour.. i cannot remember at all having a show with ayja.. and i knew what i was looking for. what it basically means is the cervix is stretching and thinning enough for the plug to loosen and start coming away.

Hey SimSam, I hope things get going for you soon and you meet your wee bubba shortly. I remember feeling both excited and scared! Unfortunately for me though I didn't start labour for a week after I had a show! Hope that doesn't happen for you.
Good luck with everything, can't wait to hear an update
