Topic: sorry if TMI - leakage? Posted: 20 August 2007 at 9:49pm |
right..i constantly amaze myself with the stuff I am prepared to type on here..but anyway ..i got out of the shower today (I'm 14 weeks 4 days or 15 weeks 2 days) and felt a wet sensation around my nipple area..so I looked under my dressing gown and some clear liquid was leaking out from right on the nipple area.. was just a little bit and then it stopped...
Sorry for the dumb question but what is it? It's too early for it to be milk and it was clear like water anyway..so help me..what is it?

Dont worry totally normal. Keep an eye on it and if it starts to show get yourself some breast pads.

Absolutley, totally normal. I starting leaking at about the same time. As Becks said, get some breast pads just incase. Mine was enough to go through my shirts at work. Very embarrasing

I think you are starting to leak colostrum. The sensation of the warm and gently massaging shower water often sets it off (and when you have baby, it sets of a spray of milk!). Totally normal

That part I am not looking forward to! With Hannah I started leaking at night about 18 weeks and every morning had wet circles on my pj top! We're getting a new bed tomorrow so may have to sleep on towels to stop ruining it!

And if it does come to it and you do need breast pads, invest in some reusable ones - so much cheaper. I brouhgt 3 sets when Josh was 3 months old and I still need them, I have more than used my $15 worth.

This freaked me out a few weeks ago too and have now invested in some washable breast pads thanks to Becks advice. This just reminded me, I woke up in the middle of the night on Sunday and thought the roof was leaking cos I'd just got a massive wet patch on my arm - until I realised that obviously whatever I'd been dreaming about had set the colostrum going
My m/w said if you start leaking early it usually means you'll have a great milk supply and could be a good breastfeeder.
