Just a quick question as can't really find the info I am after:

When should you start wearing a maternity bra?

Do you need to if you are bottle feeding?

Thanks

I have one on now! Only cos I outgrew all my old bras and its hard to find a normal style bra with no underwire in larger bust sizes. If I could of found a normal one then I probably wouldnt get maternity ones until a couple of weeks before due date. If you plan on bottle feeding then I wouldnt bother at all.

I found I got to a stage when the underwire started to annoy me. I was suprised as I never thought that would happen...being large breasted, underwires were my friend! But I think the bumps gets up there and it feels constricted.

I guess if you are solely bottle feeding (without expressing) you might still need a maternity bra for the first few weeks until your boobs work out they dont need to make milk. A badly fitted bra can block ducts and cause swelling, abscess etc. Talk to your MW

I went clothes shopping yesterday and the lady said that you need to get out of underwieres as soon as possible as these decrease circulation to you milk ducts and cause mastitus?sp?

I imagine that even if you inted to bottle feed you will not want this condition (i undestand its very uncomfortable and hard to get over).  So as of yesterday i am in a maternity bra...... (hubby likes rhe easy access though )

I also got told the same thing about underwire bra's. I stopped wearing them a while back and have started using bra extenders, as they have got abit snug around my ever expanding torso (rather than spending even more money on upsizing)! I think I'll hold off buying maternity bra's until I'm at about 38 weeks. I wouldn't bother buying mat bra's if you're going to bottle feed, but would definately avoid underwire.

So it sounds as if I shouldn't be wearing my underwire bras anymore? I didn't realise that

I wouldnt get too hung up on itjust yet as your milk production isnt really happening. Aslong as the bra isnt too tight. When you get bigger you will want to swap and definately just before bubs is born

I didn't bother with maty bras until labour (so I didn't have to go too nudey after birth hehe). But I'm small-breasted so it may make a difference to that. I wore wires up to birth, although not all of my bras in that size are wired. You will want some big, soft bras for the first couple of weeks while your body brings in milk and then works out to not produce it lol. And avoid wires at that time. I'd bring it up with your mw just in case she knows something that bf mums (like myself) don't

I think wire is supposed to be ok as long as it sits outside your breasts. I found it hard to find a comfortable one so moved to non-wire bras, which are suprisingly nice an comfy despite large boobs, but do I feel like I'm sagging a bit.

I wish I'd thought of a bra extender before coughing up the $$ - that's a good idea!

I am having real bra issues!  I bought 3 new ones about a month ago cos I went up a cup.  Now I can't stand wearing them cos of the underwire.  I am desperaretly trying to look for something to give me some sanity! I had a look at some mat bras in farmers but couldn't find any 10's.  Where has everyone got theirs from?

I have only ever started to wear them once I've had the baby. But when I've started weaning the children & not feeding them during the daytime I've gone straight back into the underwire. I've never suffered from mastitis thankfully, but it can be caused from underwire bras blocking the ducts.

I wore my normal underwire bras right up to when I went to hospital. I've only been using my maternity bras since giving birth, since my boobs stayed their normal size and shape until my milk came in.
