Topic: Alcohol free wines Posted: 05 August 2007 at 8:25am |
Hello ladies,
I bought a non-alcoholic red wine the other day but even though it says its non-alcoholic it contains 0.5% alcohol.
0.5% is really low so you cant get drunk on it - hence its considered non-alcoholic.
does that mean I can't drink it if it contains any traces of alcohol?
p.s. im 20 weeks pregnant

Hi Sarahcular, I bought some of that wine last time I was pregnant and to be honest it just tasted like fruit juice to me and wasn't worth the $20 I spent on it (its hard for some of us ladies who love our glass of vino to relax in the evening to go 10 whole months!!)
I think drinking something 0.5% is totally fine but its your own choice, I had a glass of proper wine last time at xmas/new year, but you do feel guilty but its such a personal decision

Hi Sarah, you would think that such a tiny amount of alcohol wouldn't make any difference at all. Thats really wrong that its supposed to be non-alcoholic wine. There should be totally no alcohol.
I agree though, its totally up to you, whether you feel comfortable drinking it or not. If it was me I probably wouldn't have any, but I'm not really a wine drinker

I would drink it, especially since you are well past 14 weeks. But I still wouldn't drink a whole bottle or anything.
I do still have the odd glass of wine (usually only a half) during pregnancy, not often though.

I know a lady that has guiness every fortnight (just a glass) - apparently its got something in it that pregnant women crave.
I would go for it - the only reason they have that tiny little bit of alcohol is because there may be traces that they couldn't fully get out when processing it I guess.

I remember when my ex boyfriend stopped drinking alcohol. He switched to a non-alcoholic beer for a while, then they stated it had 0.5% alcohol. He did some research on it, and apparently the listing of 0.5% or less was just due to new laws. I'd imagine, if it said non-alcoholic, then it would be just that. You could try and ring the company that makes the product, it could be the same thing as above with the beer.
Good luck.
