Topic: Everythings turned to poop! Help! Posted: 26 July 2007 at 2:20pm |
Wasnt sure where to put this!
Okay so i live with my sister in law and basically im sooo not happy there. Just everything is not going good for me.
Long story short, im moving in with my dad.
He lives in Port Waikato!
I need a new midwife and i dont know where to start. My midwife said to ring the hospital closest to dads and ask them and im about to do that, but i thought maybe someone here could help me out?
Any midwives anyone know of in pukekohe or round there?
And with the cholestasis thing it makes it harder cause i have to transfer hospitals dont i. Grr.
Im not a happy chappy today
Any thoughts or suggestions? Especially from you Aucklanders!

Sorry - dont know anyone down that way, but maybe check out http://www.cmdhb.org.nz/Counties/Funded-Services/Hospital-Specialist/Services/Pukekohe/pukekohematernityunit.htm for info on the Pukekohe Maternity Unit - but given your complications you may have to go to Middlemore.
Hope that things work out for you - sometimes a change is as good as a rest, so might do you the world of good!

Hugs Mel! My advice - avoid Middlemore like the plague! Go to Auckland. It's a little further in, but trust me, it is soooo worth it and they have state of the art NICU facilities if you end up needing to be induced early.

Hmmm, have to disagree with Emma about Middlemore! Although their postnatal wards are pretty crappy, their NICU is the best in Auckland and is only 18 months old

Yeah, it was all over the news a couple of days ago. Apparently they've had them for a while and just can't get rid of them. So now they're giving staff and patients flea bracelets!

I disagree with the comment made about middlemore - yes they do have a flea problem but this does not make them a bad hospital in terms of safety
I dont usually make comments like this but feel that your comment was unneccessary and very stressing to us who intend to birth at Middlemore

Over the past 8 years I have worked at both Auckland Hospital, the old NWH (when it was still at Greenlane) and more recently Middlemore. I certainly think that in terms of public opinion Middlemore gets a bad reputation, but I have never heard anything from anyone birthing there to say they had a bad experience. The whole hospital is being 'revamped' and their NICU is as good as Auckland's. Yes they do have a flea prob at the moment, which is unfortunate and I personally think its pretty gross, but that is my opinion - and I dont think it will affect the quality of medical care that you would recieve. Talk to you MW about your options - Auck Hospital is a heck of a long way from Port Waikato, but I guess at the end of the day its up to you! Good Luck!

I totally agree that this whole flea thing is gross - hope they sort it our before my bubs arrives - fingers crossed
Melln - dont quote me on it but you may find it hard to get a MW in Port Waikato or even south Auckland that delivers at Auckland hospital - most deliver at Middlemore or a local birthing unit

Glad you found a midwife Melln, hope you're feeling a little less stressed.
I'm quite sure that the standard of medical care at Middlemore is fine, so please don't think I meant that there was any danger to Mums and babies delivering there. But Middlemore is an old hospital, and some of it's facilities are getting very tired. KH25 is right that they do have a brand new NICU unit which is top of the line, and they are close to KidzFirst which is a brilliant facility, but their delivery and postnatal facilities are very average from a material perspective.
Auckland on the other hand had brand new purpose-built delivery and postnatal facilities (unless you are unlucky enough to be stuck over in the Tamaki ward in the old hospital ) and neonatal facilities. Women in other areas of Auckland who are considered extremely high risk are usually advised to birth at Auckland as they also have the top obstetric and paediatric consultants on call, and are in close proximity to the paediatric team and PICU at Starship if neccessary.
ETA: I personally wouldn't deliver at Middlemore. When I was pregnant with the gremlins we were zoned for Waitakere, but I chose a midwife who delivered at Auckland and travelled from Avondale to Glen Innes for my antenatal appointments because I felt more comfortable delivering at Auckland. JM2CW.
