what do you think my chances are of being excused for Jury Duty.

got a summons in the mail today for the week of August 13..I will be around 26 weeks by then. I am thinking of asking my MW to write a letter as it is I am having to get up to go to the toilet every 30 minutes or so and I have heard/read that pregnant woman shouldnt sit for long periods.

I would say that your chances are pretty good. I did Jury Service early last year, and then got called again later in the year. I wrote a letter saying that I had already served on one case and as I was self employed, taking another week off wasnt an option for me financially. They were sweet about it, so would imagine being pregnant you should be fine. There is a tonne of sitting around, I wouldnt want to do it now!

Just write in telling them that you are pregnant and have a brain like a sieve and a woolworths bladder and do the REALLY want you...not to mention you are emotional and irrational.

I think that pregancy is a valid reason to get out of jury duty. I was on an attempted murder trial and it was SOOOOO stressful - you really don't want to put yourself through that "in your condition".

Yup it's a valid excuse. I got excused from jury duty while pregnant. Just on the form write down how preggers you are and that you don't want the stress and it wouldn't be very good to have someone on a jury who needs to be excused every 1/2 hour hehe

I would ask to be excused on the basis of "unable to sit still for long periods due to late pregnancy". In Palmy, you usually only have to request to be excused and they will excuse you because there are always heaps of people called and a lot of them don't bother to ask!

Argh, damn dury duty!! I've just sent me form back getting excused because if they make me do it, I fail my course and won't graduate this December! They better excuse me for that reason! My mum said, write on the bottom of your letter (Section C I think it is) that you would be more than happy to serve at another time.

It's luck of the draw. My gt-grandmother got a request when she was about 88? She asked her daughter (my nana) what to do with it and she said "frame it!". On the other hand, I've been called up about 4 times... bf is a great excuse

My mum last got called when she was in a coma in 1995 and they haven't asked her since (we joke and say they must of thought she must of died as she was so close to dying). Last time I got called I had just had Andrew so I got out of it because of BF great excuse.

It's all to do with the electoral role to how you get called up for it, luck of the draw sometimes.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
