Just curious to know what you did if/when you had a surprise pregnancy (the only surprise pg I had was a m/c). How long did it take to get used to the idea? Did you tell people right away? Did you tell people it was a surprise? If you did, did people congratulate you or did they give you "sympathy" (ugh!). Thanks

I had a surprise with my first - I had only been with the father 5 months and well... along came Josh. I remember telling my friend at work that I hadn't had my AF for 2 weeks (over due) she was laughing saying haha your pregnant (everyone in the factory was falling pregnant at the time and so we thought it was a right laugh) anyhow went to chemist to get a test - trying to be very discret whispering I needed a Pregnanccy test (I was 19 at the times so it was rather embarrasing)and the the lady at the counter started piling all these tests on the counter and I swear she had the loudest voice in the world.. I just grabbed one and went round to my friends place. Now this particular test had to go pink if you were, well it went practically red but I was saying nah its white LOL... Anyhow I lived in Uk at the time, I moved back to NZ the father did come over a few months after me but it didn't work out and so he went back (now what has happened in the years afterwards with him is a whole novel) anyway I would say having josh was never a 'mistake' just something that came before he was 'due' - if you know what I mean. I was going nowhere fast before him and we have been thru so many things together. We've been thru a very rough patch too (ie: abusive relationship) and we have come thru the other end to be where we are now.
when I found out I was pregnant I never thought abortion although being a mother scared the sh#t out of me (espec when he turned out a boy, what was I s'pose to dowith a boy?)
to answer your questions:
I told ppl probably straight away since ppl wondered why i wasn't 'partying'anymore.
I don't think I totally got use to the idea till 6 months after he was born.
I don't think ppl symphaised (is that even a word???)me, all seemed to congrat although I always say Josh was imaculate conception.. LOL
oh abd if you are tryig to tell us something congrats...

The first thing I said when we found out I was pg with Erin was "Oh Sh*t !!". Not sure how long it took us to really get used to it, we spent the first weekend after the BFN completely shellshocked. I think it became far easier to accept once our parents knew, and it was great that they were happy for us - DH and I hadn't even been together a year yet. We knew we wanted babies together, but were going to wait a *little* longer LOL Absolutely no regrets though, Erin is the best thing that has ever happened !!

I was working at a gp surgery and one of my friends had asked me to get her a pg tast as she was late. So for a week I had this test in my pocket and kept forgetting to give it to her. That Friday when I was off to the toilet at work I thou hmm my af is 4days late maybe I should check (using the test in my pocket) hahaha expecting it to be negative. OMG It was POSITIVE!!!! I freaked out and took my urine into the sluice room and did 7 more tests lol after they were all positive I checked the box for the expire date of the test incase they were expired. It was ok so I rang my friend who is also a nurse and asked her if she thinks batches of pg test can be faulty. She was like HELL NO lol. I then printed myself off a lab form for an HCG level and went to the lab in my lunch break for the test and asked them urgently fax thru results to dr's inbox. Ran back to work and waited logged into the results inbox before anyone saw it hahaha. Now I think about how funny the day sounds. After the initial OMGOSH I was excited and couldnt wait to tell everyone!!! I got alot of neg coments because I wasnt married and on number 3 and working fulltime but I didnt care as I feel it was a perfect time to have another one

Rico & this 3rd baby were surprise pregnancies. With Rico we'd just come home our O.E. But we told people straight away & everyone was VERY happy for us. This 3rd pregnancy EVERYONE was more surprised than we were! I did get a couple of funny looks & heard some funny comments come back to me about it. I think because Gia was only about 13 mths old at the time. But generally everyone was happy for us.

Well Josh was a big surprise for us. We told my family the night of a huge family party and everyone was over the moon for us.

DH tells me that if we have onother one its will be because it was another surprise so it'll be a surprise for him but not me . I'll be planning it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Well this one is a complete surprise lol.

My whole family were very surprised but supportive. Im amazed i didnt get the whole "sympathy" thing.
Of course the ex wasnt happy about it lol. But him and his family were the only ones

It took me quite a bit to get used to the fact that i was having a baby. I mean i knew i wanted her, i just was a wee bit scared and having to deal with my ex and i breaking up and all the as well made it hard.

But im so happy. I cant wait :) And seeing as shes my first its not that bad lol.
Melanie.

I was 22 with Conor when I found out I was pg with him. It was a complete shock/surprise/wake up call. The night I told the father he broke up with me and refused to have anything to with me. When I told my parents mum went into shock, but surprisingly dad and my sister were great. I knew that I'd be facing single motherhood and I was ok with that..I don't regret having Conor for one second, we had a cool life for the first four years of his life, then things turned to custard and then we met my husband and it's been great ever since.

Nyah was an accidental planned surprise, we didn't think I'd get pg so quickly. Both sets of parents were really weird towards us, because hubbie had just returned from overseas, and there were doubts that we would stay together. 7 years on we proved them wrong.

Bump was planned, this time it took longer than it did with Nyah, which we found frustrating. This time the parents were over the moon. Can't bloody win with them.

omg rach, how rude is that??!

ha haha, Teresa wouldn't that be so neat... lol.. am soooo currently waiting to test but having a real hard time holding out. don't wanna do it too early!!

all 3 of mine have been surprises.

paris i found out at the end of 1st nursing year, had broken up from mike about a week and a bit before i found out, we were still living in the same place cos neither of us could afford to move out so were just in different rooms. i kinda knew things were a couple of days late but hadn't been all that reg with cycles so wasn't worried, joint a gym even that week and signed for a 12 mth contract.. had my 1st appointment the day i tested. told him i was going to test on my day off cos i was working overtime hours at spotlight since it was holidays.. and that was my only day off. went, got the test from women's health centre, decided i'd take it to do the next morning.. was walking, got into town on way to gym, curiousness got the better of me, so i went into the downstairs toilet at the library and took the test. i crack up at myself now.. we took the girls to the library the other day and on the way out paris needed to go toilet so i took her in there and thought to myself, "geez, last time i was in here i found out i was having a baby!!" ha ha, needless to say, that day i tested, i went straight to my mates place in town, rung the gym and cancelled appointment, textd mike and told him, and yep told everyone.

I think i got the most interesting answers when i told people cos they were like "oh, so i guess you'll drop out of nursing".. i was like "why would i do that?" lol we had a few people ask us "was it planned?" when they very obviously knew the circumstances and knew it wasn't, but we'd say "it was planned, it just happened a few years earlier than we had thought it would"

ayja, again hadn't actually planned it, just knew we'd had 1 time that month where we hadn't been so careful, started feeling a bit funny very early on, took the test the day af was due, told everyone straight away.

with angelbabe cycles again were mixed up, hadn't thought of any times we hadn't been careful, really didn't think it would happen, lol, waited and told myself i was dreaming till it got to day 41 of cycle and thought darn it, made mike go get test at midnight one night and woke early next morning and did it. took the test into the bedroom, woke up mike pretty much by having test in front of his face.. first thing he saw when he woke was that.. he he, he just said a few very very choices words. lol. but once the kids woke up we told them and they were so excited.

if this is a success it will be the only one that is planned, but its nice too.

who cares if they are planned, i beleive everything happens at that time for a reason.. paris happened because me and mike were obviously meant to be together, and who knows what would have happened if she hadn't come along, we both grew up a heck of alot.
ayja came along to stop paris from being a lonely child.. something she tends to get like sometimes. angel babe came along to tell us we are meant to have more kiddies, but it just wasn't right timing for us.

good luck teresa.. i hope you get the result you are wanting, come to think of it, i hope I get the result i am wanting too!
Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

This baby was a surprise, although he was only a month or two earlier than we'd planned to start trying. I found out that I was pregnant a few weeks (I think three weeks from memory?) before my wedding, and we'd planned on starting to try straight after the wedding. Everyone was over the moon when we told them, nothing but congratulations. I think it was obvious how thrilled to bits we were
