Just wondering if anyone has any tips or hints for moving house. We will be moving in March and I don't want to unsettle our little one. When we move he will be 9 months old. I am sure he will love the boxes and paper but I am interested in other peoples experiences and ideas to keep them settled esp at bedtimes.

I think he'll be fine. A litle older and he would be more aware. Just makes sure you have all his usual things handy, favourite toys, usual sheets, blankets, bed. Keep all his furniture handy so you can set up his room straight away and you can put him to sleep etc

We moved about 8 weeks ago. It was mental and it was only 10 minutes down the road. Both my kids have been fine. I made sure we talked about the move all the time and explained that all there toys and beds and the couch and tv were all going to the new house to.

I was completely Knackered afterwards though. Moving while pregannat is not fun.

Oh and My mum and sister looked after the kids while we did the actual move, to anf form houses. It made it a whole heap easier not having to worry about were they were and feding them, etc. But your is still little so it may not be too bad.

BessieBear - thanks for that, yeah we have my MIL looking after PT he is on the move so it will be good to know he has someone keeping an eye just on him so we can sort the rest out. Man you are brave moving while pregnant I remember feeling so tired all the time the thought of packing and unpacking would have driven in insane!

We're moving in 2 weeks and one of the things we have been told is to get ds room set up asap so he's not as disturbed. We have started packing but aren't packing up much of his stuff till the day or 2 before we move to try and keep the disturbance down for him.

We are moving on the days that he goes to daycare so it's his usual routine and we can concentrate on the move and know he's safe.

we have moved twice with our kids recently - once rental-rental when DD was 11mo , then we bought when she was 18mo & DS was 3wks. Make sure you set their things up (cot etc) so its all handy when you need it. Make sure you have extra help (mum/MIL etc) to help with baby if you are going to be busy, they can also help with snacks, meals & stuff. We didn't wash the kids sheets between each end of the move so they smelled the same in their new room, but TBH it was pretty easy & they settled well. Good luck, hope the move goes well.

P.s. Make sure you get your bed set up, cos you will be sooooo tired & bottle of sav in the fridge to toast your survival!

We moved when DS was 6 months. We took him to the new house a few times before we moved in so he would be familiar with it. I also set up his new room as much like his old one as I possibly could, put the same sheets etc on that he'd had at the other place. I made sure it was completely set up for him before I did any of the other rooms. I also had my Mum look after him so he wasn't stressed by the moving process. I think as long as you keep to normal routines, ie all the same things you usually do at bedtime, he will be ok, he might be unsettled the first few nights but if you keep to what you would normally do, he will settle in. I kind of liken it to going on holiday- when we go stay with the inlaws, DS is always a bit of a pain on the first night with a different bed etc but once he settles in and we follow all the same routines and sleep times, he gets used to it and barely notices in the end. Good luck!
