Does anyone know if we can advertise in publications like OhBaby looking to adopt privately (and of course legally)? Is this legal to do in New Zealand?

I don't see why not, I've seen people advertise for egg donors etc in the classified section of Treasures and similar publications. Not sure of OB mag has a classified section.

I would seek legal advise to be honest. I have never seen anyone advertising for this, and I would imagine that there are all sorts of rules.

I don't know if you can advertise to adopt in NZ as all adoptions have to meet certain criteria & most sit on a list for ages. Maybe its due to more people wanting babies than babies needing adoption.

I would get legal advise.

You can private adopt in NZ, but not sure if it is legal to advertise for that option. If you know someone who is pregnant and they want to adopt their child with you, you have to go via CYFs. Perhaps ask CYFs for your answer?

i would definitely check with CYFS as they would have to approve you as parents to adopt anyways

Not sure if they have to approve you, I am adopted - to a family friend, if you find someone that wants to adopt out a child / baby i think you just go to the Family Courts - because in the end its the birth parent(s) decision who their off spring go to :)

Chanel X: Not wise and don't think this site would allow it, as all Adoptions are few each year, if any they are processed as Open Adoptions, through CYF, must be approved first by back ground checks.

Despite if you trying this way, and find or work some thing privately out, all Adoptions are Open Adoptions in NZ nowadays unless both parties agree other wise. There is a clear certain and Ethical and Legal way to do Adoptions.

You can though go through your own GP and discuss any of these issues first , as at times some couples have been helped through their GP. But then all Adoptions still go through CYFS Legally they are the clearing place for all Children in need, as CYFS will do a Police check first, then you need a Home study, then may be a Pych Check if they require one, for suitability of parenting,Medical etc, then if successful the formal court proceeding, depending on circumstances if Baby or child Adoption in NZ can take 12- 24 mths and longer.

CYFS Adoption Laws says you need to be 25 and over, be able to prove to be fit to Adopt, by their Rules and Regulations.

These are CYFS Guidelines, not mine. Simply check with them.

Mindi, do you realise this post is over a year old and is possibly not even relevant to the original poster anymore? You are asking very direct and personal questions and I find it offensive. We try to be supportive on this site, not judgemental.
