Does anyone else think that Christmas this year is a bit of a fizzer? Everyone just seems so preoccupied with the cost of it all that it seems more trouble than it used to be... And its DDs first christmas!

I think you get this a bit every year, but this year I think there's more money trouble around.

For me there is just so much going on this time of the yr that the Xmas feel does not kick in till just before the day.

As for the cost of it, since our boys are getting older we would rather spend money on something that is going to be used so we are getting them the xbox360 kinect & just a few little things also.

I was speaking to a friend who went out & spent $500+ on one of her kids & put it on the credit card. I have no problem with people spending big $ but if you don't have it then what's the point. We pay cash so if we don't have it we don't spend it. I would rather do a real budget Xmas than have to worry about paying it off for months & paying extra with interest.

Christmas this year year is more christmassy than ever for me, which is weird since number 2 arrives tomorrow, and I'm not going north for xmas like I usually do.

But I think its because DS is 2 1/2 and is really excited about Santa coming. All he wants is balloons, so its not like he's breaking the bank.

I think xmas day itself will be weird, I always spend it with my 20+ cousins, and this year it will just be the 4 of us.

I'm looking forward most to DH having to wake up at 5am (or even earlier) for DS Santas been wakeup call! While I sleep in with baby!..... (dreams are free!)

im really into xmas this yr too. I cant wait. we dont buy anything we dont have cash for, but we still have managed to go big this xmas. we have decorated the living room with lots of lights and are planning a yummy cooked breakfast, and then a xmas dinner(that we dont usually do). I just click that this yr we will have 13 people here for dinner. we are use to bigger but that was when i was younger and feeding everyone wasnt my problem lol.
but I actually feel like this is a very relaxed yr for us. I havent finsihed our xmas shopping but the stuff left to get isnt essential. just a trike for ds4 but his bday is a month after xmas so might be nice to leave it for then.

This is my most christmasy year, in years.

I am right into it.

I have never been a believer that xmas is about expensive gifts, so the recession side of things doesn't taint my feelings.

I just love that the kids are at an age when they get excited, they believe in Father Christmas, they love the tree, and we are going to get together with family. I love it.

the lead up to Christmas is always awful with the malls being crowded and traffic to contend with we're away this year so not too Christmasy at home I have put the tree up and a stocking for DD it will be her first Christmas lunch and she'll most likely be interested in the wrapping paper more than her toys.

Her birthday was only a couple of months a go and she got heaps then Christmas is not about big presents for me its about family and food!

I am loving it - Cost doesn't come into it much we aren't buying much - kids get spoiled enough during the year - we are just super excited about making it special and fun. The kids are just so into it which makes it for us. My DF who has been a christmas grinch every year even admitted he likes christmas hehehe I always knew it!

I'm excited, as Xmas Eve is my last day of work before I start maternity leave. Most years I work through Xmas, and DH has two weeks off while his place shuts down. So we'll be spending a whole two weeks together!!

And we're going all out to spoil the cats this Christmas, as next year it'll all be about the baby.

I'm quite excited this year - the kids are at a great age to enjoy it and we're making sure we don't spend anything we cant afford to.

my MIL tried to tell us all (her four kids + partners) to spend $20 only on each other... anyone else find it incredibly hard to find something nice & thoughtful for that amount? we managed to keep it to $30 for each family member and found some pretty cool stuff. still though, love how people start thinking they can manage everyone else's lives for them.

i'm not as excited about Christmas this year purely because it will be the first year I will have had a Christmas Day without seeing my family at all. I get on well with my in-laws but it's just not the same... next year though my parents totally have dibs on everyone being there AND their first grandbaby will be here

I'm definitely looking forward to Christmas this year, our first Christmas with all four members of our family and as I've been pregnant the last two in a row, it will be a nice change to have no bump (though secretly I wish I had a bump!!)

I have struggled with Christmas most years as none of my own family live in NZ and I get incredibly home sick. Same as you nannikin, I get on well with my IL's but nothing compares to your own family and being back home.

I am however super excited to see DS's face when he sees his gifts under the tree and when he heads outside, both him and DD have been pretty spoiled this year but we've been buying throughout the year so it hasn't been a big expense at all really. We certainly wouldn't have spent the money if we didn't have the cash though.

6 sleeps - woop
