This year we have made our own decorations out of salt dough. (2 c flour, 1 c salt, 1 c water, mixed to a dough). We made some xmas trees, stars, hearts, and their initials, which we then baked at 120c for 3 hours. Their ready to be painted now.

We have a can drive in our neighborhood this week so I will get the kids to choose some non-perishables at the supermarket that they can give themselves.

We will also be doing some other little crafty things and baking in the lead up.

What does your family do that makes Christmas special (apart from giving presents).

This is our first year really doing anything for Christmas but so far we have started a tradition of getting a santa photo and ds choosing a Christmas tree decoration.
Not sure what else we will do but I am more excited about Christmas this year than previous years and want to make it special for him.

We have an advent calendar for the first time this year. It's not quite finished (I'm making it) but the kids are really excited each morning to find something in a little bag. I bought them a nativity set so each day they are getting a piece of that in the bag.

We are doing the advent calendar thing this year too, I finally finished making it, it took over a year to get it done lol. DS#1 gives us all a treat out of it, and we have just a cruskit for the 9month old in each bag. We have a mixture of chocolate, real coins for the piggy bank, and notes that say he's allowed to watch his favourite TV show.
We also go to Smith & Caugheys and visit santa.
This year I want to start taking 2.5yr old to Franklin Rd in Auckland to see the Christmas lights, I'm sure there are other places like that around the country too.
When the kids are older I want to get them to pick out presents for each other and for those shoe box charity trees.
I LOVE Christmas.
