Hey everyone :)
This will probly sound a little odd but was wanting some opinions on helping my DD (6months) deal when I'm away..
I've been going to ballet and hockey twice a week for over a month now. I'm gone less than 2 hours and she has always just had a feed (BF) and is normally just got up from a nap (should be aa happy little clam!)
But within about 10mins of me leaving (so I'm told) she starts to scream the house down! Will even cry through dinner time (food is normally a great distraction)..
Routine is normally that I feed her, leave, DH gives her solids and a bath, I'm home for another feed then bed.
I've tried giving DH more responsibility/time with her and shes fine, if I'm in the house somewhere, snuggly things, even a bottle of BM but I'm still coming home to a beside herself little girl and a harrased husband!
I'm really valuing my time alone but I hate doing this to her, she gets sooo upset!
Sounds like your active life is similar to mine except I go to the gym and yoga! I have a 7 month old DS, and we started getting him into me being away from when he was about 4 months (I would top him up with breastfeeds and leave him with DH)
Were you the one that used to give her solids and bathe her? It might just take time for her to adjust to having some one different feed her and give her a bath,as I doubt that she would be experiencing seperation anxiety at such a young age. You never know though!
You could give it time to see if she adjusts or maybe DH could change it around a bit like take her for a walk in the pram instead.
If DH is getting stressed and tense your DD will pick up on this. If DD doesn't want to eat then I wouldn't stress about it, if she is really hungry she would eat! I think if DH took her for a walk in the pram and fed her outdoors, they could make it fun and special that only DD and DH could do together?
Another idea which I had to do due to part time work was that we got our DS onto drinking expressed BM from a sippy cup. We started this when he was about 5 months and he is happy for anyone to help him with his cup!
Tan 1's idea of DH taking her out might help. If she's in your routine, she'll notice you're not there. If he does his own routine, going out for a walk etc, she might settle as it's daddy time and she'll learn that it's different.
Has he taken her out successfully before without you?
