Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, and my husband & I would like to start a family very soon. We have an international trip planned in a couple of months with many flights and I have had mixed opinions of the dangers of flying if I were to fall pregnant either before our during the trip.

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

Many thanks
:)

Flying is fine- it might not be very comfortable in early pregnancy if you have morning sickness (or even if you don't), and in long flights be extra careful about walking around and avoiding deep vein thrombosis.

I flew domestically when I was just seven weeks pregnant, and again when I was seven months pregnant and everything was fine. They were only hour flights though, but can't imagine if you were early on in the pregnancy that there would be much additional danger. My midwife was happy with me flying too and I'm sure she would have said something if she was concerned.

Having said that, I had some spotting after my flight at seven weeks, it turns out it was totally unrelated to the flying but I was still freaking out that the flying could have contributed so perhaps if you are nervous about it you could stop ttc until you get back?

Thank you both for your comments :) The doctor mainly said due to the amounts of radiation you are exposed to when flying, is the reason she suggested we should wait to ttc until we get back... And I guess not so much that it was a huge risk, but just if anything did happen it would be better to be closer to home... I'm just impatient I think - in the grand scheme of things what is a couple of moths?? :)

Thanks again :)

We TTC while in Ireland on holiday visiting my parents, we travelled from Ireland to London and I had implantation bleeding on arrival (which I at the time I thought was AF) but after a week there and then arriving back to NZ I POAS and it was positive and from that came DS

All the best for TTC whenever you decide is best!

?? I have never even heard of radiation while flying! Have googled now tho.
I have seen pregnant flight attendants before and most web sites say it would need to be about 200hrs flight time before worrying so I wouldn't stress about that aspect....I think your Dr should have clarified this for you.
check this website out, it is canadian but presumably is reliable lol!

Hi Nutella,
Thanks a lot for this link. I think I'll go back to the doctor and clarify her concerns... :)
