I've been thinking about this over the past few days too. It's really hard isn't it? All the systems have their pros and cons I guess.
I like the idea of MMP but I hate the way it can result in one person, whom hardly anyone voted for (ie Winston!!), having the power to choose which party will be in Government. So I am kind of leaning towards Supplementary Member, which is basically the same but the proportion of the party vote you get only gives you a proportion of 30 seats rather than 120. The rest are electorate seats. That way the smaller parties still get a voice but not disproportionately.
But definitely haven't made up my mind yet and will be watching this thread with interest :)

Yes, that is my main issue with MMP as well, that a smaller party leader can suddenly become Deputy Prime Minister. But in the end I do like how it gives smaller parties representation, so I will most prob be voting to keep MMP.
Some of the systems where you rank each person sound like they would be SO much work!
I'm going to a lecture about this is in a week or so as I can't decide.
TBH I still think MMP is the best option they are offering - if they made changes to it as far as thresholds go or what positions members can hold depending on their seats they get (like how the smallest member in a coalition can hold such great power because they know they hold the tie-breaker card). I definitely don't see a return to FPP, supplementary member would have to be looked at seriously - I think with the amount of whole party politics we've been bombarded with, most of us don't know as much about the electorate candidates as we should. Supplementary member would be a mess at first I would think.
I get sick of how the smaller parties hold us to ransom basically while they negotiate what they want & who they will join to form the government, so I am not going for MMP...not sure what as need to know more, but there is one that you can vote for the candidate you want & the party...but need to look in to it before deciding.
A bit OT I saw on the news that National wants to drop the youth minimum wage from $13 to $10 an hr, with the cost of living not going down last thing needed is wages going down no matter what your age, does not give much incentive to people to get of benefits if you will not earn much & end up paying more.
