I'd like to hear from people who are studying this. I'm considering a career change. I'm looking at going to the NZ college of ECE in CHCH - it's walking distance from my mums place and the bus. And I'll be doing it on campus instead of in a centre.
I noticed that it's 3 years to get the degree which is fine - I just need to know what the actual workload is like. I'm a efficient studier, but I need to know what sort of work you bring home because of my kids etc :)

I haven't studied it but my sister has at the Epsom Campus in Auckland.

She managed to work full-time as well, so I'm sure if you are well-organised you could fit in the study and time needed.
She seemed to do best (the least stressed) if she went an hour early or stayed an hour late for a few classes a week and did the majority of her study then away from distractions. Just an idea. :) And there is always after the kiddies are in bed.

Oh cool. Problem being of course that I'll never see the kids anyway because I have to travel quite a ways to get to the place and will be gone in the morning before they get up and home after they've gone to bed.

I did look into that, but I really need that campus learning environment and stuff :)

I am in my 3rd year doing my degree in ECE so nearly finished yay! I study though New Zealand tertiary college so do it all online and go to 2 block courses a year which are sun/mon. I have managed to do this with 3 kids when I started they were 3 and my twins neary 2. It has been hard at time like when they are sick so I tend to cram in alot of study at once. This year I have also been working full time, so it is doable if you are commited. Good luck!
