    Posted: 06 October 2011 at 10:14am
When i was pregnant, i was telling a friend of a friend at a party how i was terrified of going into labour while DF was at work as he was out of cellphone coverage. She told me that it was an natural instinct for women to give birth at night as thousands of years ago there were less predators around at night and that i shouldn't worry!

And wadda ya know, I went into labour in the evening and gave birth around 5 in the morning

I bumped into this girl the other day and was reminded of this.. needless to say she said I told you so!

So just out of curiosity I'm wondering who else out there, who went into labour on there own accord (no inductions.. or c sections!)gave birth at night? Is this a fact or was she just talking a load of jibber jabber?!

I was in labour for a full 24 hours including early labour she was born at 6.10am, it was a full moon and I had heard it quite common for mothers to have their babies when there is a full moon.

#1 started at midnight (but didn't give birth until 5pm the next day)

#2 started at 3am and gave birth at 8.30am  , so both times started in the middle of the night.

For me I took it for granted that I would go into labour in the middle of the night- don't know why, I just also assumed I would.

#1, first labour pangs at 4am, laboured over the day & ended up going to hospital at 10pm & had her at 2am.
#2, waters broke at 11.30pm he was born at 5am.

I hope like hell that the same thing happens again this time, I like that closeness/privacy of the night.

My MW with DD said it was common for labour to start during the night, but obviously it depended how long it went as to when bub would be born.

My labour with DD started at 9am and finished when she was hauled out at 1pm the next day.

My labour with #2 is going to start any minute now... right?!

Both Ty and C I went into labour at midday,my contractions started with a definite "sh*t this is it" intensity
C was born at 9:07pm that night,Ty was born at 3:44am the next morning.
Mila..well Im pretty sure my body was doing SOMETHING all day,but the contractions,if thats what you can even call them weren't terribly painful...so really I went into labour around 9:20pm and she was born at 11:41pm

I myself was born at 11:22 am

1st_time_Preggies, I was almost the same, started at 12:30pm, baby out at 4:31pm.
I did lose my plug/show the previous night and felt a little crampy all night and fine once the sun came up though.

I wonder if it's instinctive as in you want to give birth in the cover of darkness or if it's because you're most relaxed then? I had just put DD1 to bed for an afternoon nap and relaxed on the couch when things suddenly began.
Can't say I ever really felt relaxed at night with restless legs etc when pregnant
