crying over poo

my 5mth old cries when he poos. i mean big screaming cries and tears and very upset.
the poos aren't hard solid - i mean they are well formed but squishy, he only poos about once every 3 to 4 days.
he's BF & on solids 2xday. i often give him prunes mixed in with his fruit. and i stay away from rice/potatoes.
he also farts up a storm on a regular basis, but the thing that upsets/worries me is the poos. he's so super upset by them.

it's not constipation, because the poos are squishy but what could it be?

anyone else have this with their baby?

Has it just been since he's been on solids? Could be a food intolerance?

My dd cryed for months when doing #2's, was heartbreaking so I know how it feels!

In the end our GP thought she may have gotten a fissure from a bout of diarrehea initially and then because it hurt she started trying to hold it in.

we tried all the prunes, pears, tried to get water into her but none of it worked. In the end we used Lactulouse. #2's had to be VERY loose for a long time in order for it to heal.

She was on lactulouse for about 2 months which worked fantastically and eventually we weaned her off that and used kiwi crush which was awesome for keeping her regular and soft. Mind you she was almost 9 months and drinking from a sippy cup when we used that, so might be too early for your little one.

You can get lactulouse from the chemist (but is costs around $15) Your Dr can prescribe it so you get it for free.

Would definitely reccomend going to the Drs. Its heartbreaking to listen to them cry when there is nothing you can do and they don't understand.

is there any way to tell if it's a fissure?
i mean he hasn't had diarrehea (yet) and before solids it was all liquid BF poo.

I think a specialist could tell you if it's a fissure. I wonder if it's worth trying to fight for a referral to a specialist (not sure how awesome your GP is) as they can then get bubs an ultrasound (to check bowels) and also investigate other possible issues.
