Hi there
My son received his 4 year old vaccinations on Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning he developed a temperature and it was quite red around the injection site. Wednesday, and no temperature but he has been quite emotional and the site is getting worse, its really inflamed and seems to be quite sore! Is this normal and is there anything I can do or put on the site?

Did you get an information sheet from the nurse/GP who administered the injection? We got given a sheet and those are all 'normal' reactions so personally I wouldn't worry unless his temp was VERY high.

We got warned of this as well! We had that reaction and the MMR rash. Was funtimes for sure. I'd personally give paracetamol and keep and eye on your wee man. I'd call them and let them know that he has had a reaction tho, well that what we got told to do anyway :)

I wasn't given any information or warnings at all! I was pretty sure it was normal but then started to become concerned when its still getting bigger 48 hours later. Whats the MMR rash!

Oh my goodness popcorn hope it's all o.k. Poor wee thing.
Health line are really excellent and will be able to help.
The MMR rash is apparently a normal reaction that some children get. Did he have any reaction to his 15 month jabs? As the the four year old jabs are the booster.
Take care
DS1 had his jabs last month as we were exposed to measles in a doctors waiting room!, we are all o.k no spots!

the MMR rash is when it looks like they have measles. Not all of them gets it, just seems that #2 gets all the reactions from the imms.. number 1 never did!

Hi popcorn, Hope the site looking less inflamed today. My daughter recently had her 4yr old vaccinations. Late the next day she developed a fever & the site became very inflamed (was actually red & swollen from elbow to shoulder) For us it wasn't the arm that had the MMR but the other one that had the DTap-IPV. Took her to the Urgent Dr & they gave her antibiotics & antihistamine. Not 100% sure if it was actually a reaction to the vaccine or a secondary skin infection from the injection. If your son's arm is still inflamed, i'd contact the place that gave you the immunisation. I think if the site of injection is swollen & red larger than a old 50c piece they report it.

DS1 had a recation with his 4yr jabs. He had them done in the morning with no probs & then after 10pm that night he was crying & could not walk or put ant weight on his foot. The area where he had the injection was the size of a bread & butter plate, so basically his whole thigh & it was hard & very hot.

We lived in the country & I had to drive over 30kms in a storm to the nearest after hr dr...they gave him some meds & watched him for a wile then I had to pay $ & take him home. It took a couple of days for it to go down.

He had not had any reaction to previous vaccinations so it was a real surprise. DS2 &3 who are also fully vaccinated have not had any reactions to any of their vaccinations either.
