Hi ladies,

DD (21months) has decided she doesn't like going to bed anymore and it is breaking my heart as I have been trying to let her cry it out...

I have no idea what has changed, but a week ago she would quite happily walk to her romm when it was time for bed and quite happily say "goodnight" and we wouldn't hear a peep out of her till after 7am the next morning!

She now cries when we tell her it's bedtime and fights us when we try to put her down. The last couple of nights we have just gone as usual and put her down, and left room for her to cry about 5mins or so, till she puts herself to sleep again. She is now doing the same thing when we put her down for her day nap and the last 2nights she has woken in the wee hours, crying.... she doesn't seem to want to go to sleep unless I stand in the room with her!! If I put her lamp on she will cry for a little while but then will eventually go to sleep.... after some time though!

Please help... any ideas?

Thanks

Can't help sorry, Isabella is doing exactly the same! She got sick and got REALLY clingy and started crying at bed time and she can now get out of her cot (we're moving next week so will get her a bed then) so she'll just get out and scream at the bedroom door if i leave her to it. So now i sit her on me and she falls asleep and then i put her to bed. She's also started waking during the night so will come and climb into our bed for the rest of the night. She hits and kicks and pushes the blankets down all night so isn't much fun to sleep with. lol.

Could she be teething at all? My daughter suddenly had a complete change in temperament and mood over the last couple of weeks and it wasn't until Sat morning when we were all in bed together than I saw she has just cut 2 very, very big teeth!

As for CIO, it doesn't work for us and if you feel bad doing it then why are you doing it?

It could be separation anxiety as well... We've gone through it about 4x in the last year!

High9 she is cutting her 3rd eye tooth... but she has never had a problem sleeping with any of her other teeth?

When she cries it's more of a whinge... like not a real cry which is why I leave her.

I was thinking maybe seperation anxiety.... I work full time and have just had 2 weeks off where I spent everyday with her. Back to work today so this started before I have come back to work. We spent a week in OZ and came back 4 days before she started doing this. Maybe it's part of the reason?

What kind of routine do you have before bed? We've always done some reading and some singing and then lights out, maybe she needs a little more wind down period before sleep.

Have you tried putting her to bed a bit earlier ? Dd did this for a while and we started putting her to bed a half hour earlier. She was just overtired and the change made a huge difference.    And like jojames said a good onsistent bedtime order can help too

JoJames, our routine with DD has not changed in over a year, even when we were in OZ, it is dinner, play, bath, bottle books and then bed at 7pm.

Last night I put her through her normal routine and decided to try a night light. It is quite a dull light but seemed to do the trick. She went down with a slight 5sec grizzle, then I didn't hear a peep (apart from the odd snoring through her stuffy nose LOL) till 7am this morning!! Hopefully it continues. I am also hoping it was a combination of things getting back to normal after our holiday

Thanks for the advice ladies will let you know if things change tonight!

This sounds like us too the last 3 nights and now day sleeps too. J used to smile when we said it was night night time, now he freaks out and will not go to sleep unless i sit with him until he is snoring. In the middle of the night he wakes and will not go back to sleep even with us sitting there, so has been sleeping with me. Now today the nap he wouldn't sleep. He is no more clingy by day, no teeth coming.   CIO doesn't really work as he is so stubborn, would cry for hours.

If you figure something out please post!

Where did my awesome sleeper go?! Hubby hates having him in our bed, i hate sitting patting him all damn night.

crafty1 the last 2 nights have been a bit better! DD has slept through with me haivng put a night light in her room. She is still saying "no" when I tell her it's bedtime, but only grizzles for about 5secs still last night was the first night she didn't stand up in her cot when I put her down so fingers crossed she is getting over it

DD was also crying unelss we sat with her till she went to sleep! I didnt' want to let that stick, so went with the night light! Hope your little one grows out of it soon too

Thanks SiJay - we have been leaving the hall light on and the door open, and despite some ups and downs it is better. He is going down with no fuss for hubby and if we can get him down without crying he seems to sleep through. FX for the same tonight, need some catch up!

When i thought about it i remember my DS1's sleep getting bad around the same age.

Hubby thought it may be delayed separation anxiety as neither boy really got it at usual age.

Crafty1, DD has gotten heaps better. She doesn't cry now when we put her down and she is sleeping through again. We have put a very dim night light in her room and leave the hall light on till she falls asleep, and it seems to do the trick. So, I have no idea why all of a sudden she isn't wanting to sleep in the dark. Only problem now is she won't sleep at daycare. She in not there full time and has been going since early this year, but the last 2 times at kindy she has had no day sleep! Dont know what that is about????

Hope your DS is sleeping through
