Hey everyone,

So I love shopping for my wee girl, PP clothes coming out of my ears! I enjoy looking for stuff for her, for DH, christmas & birthday present shopping is fun...

But when it comes to buying for me - HATE IT!! I walk into a clothes shop, do a quick loop and head straight for the door again - end up getting myself so wound up I leave the mall (after making a quick stop at PP ) with nothing for myself..

Before DD was born I was a student = no money for clothes, then while pregnant - borrowed stuff off my sister, and now afterwards with my part-time job I really need to update my VERY limited wardrobe but I just CANT do it!

Does anyone have any shops they have found helpful in dressing someone who has no idea? My body shape has changed and I still have some pregnancy weight on me and I honestly just cant face it! Not to mention the fact every time I make a concerted effort DD decides to start screaming (she must have a radar, honestly!)

Where abouts are you based? I've always found shopping during the week when the older shop assistants are working the best.

If you approach them - explain what you are looking for they should be able help you out. Often having someone else look for you can mean you get some really good finds (because you'd try on something that you wouldn't normally have)

Also can you get someone to watch DD for a couple of hours while you do this? That way you wont have to worry about her and focus on the task at hand.

My fav shops are Ezibuy, Pagani, Glassons, Vallye Girl, Tempt... and Jeans West for Jeans. But honestly I'm in Rotorua and do all my shopping back in Auckland when visiting family.

Ditto chick :/ now i order most things online, try them on and ship them back if they don't fit or look good. Shopping depresses the heck out of me but looking like a rag bin depresses me worse!

Ditto I hate clothes shopping for myself as well, shoes aren't so bad as at least my feet aren't fat.

I find a lot of places I used to go the fashion is too young and skimpy - Glassons.

I like Ezibuy and I go to Ballentynes for my pants they do 5ft 2in range which fit my short legs without dragging on the ground or needing to be tucked up.

I would love a Trinny & Susannah or Gok style make over as my body shape has changed since having DD and I don't know what suits me or what looks good that doesn't make me look like a Nana or a teenager.

It's much easier shopping for a baby.

OMGoodness - so true Carlandjack.. I watch trinny & susannah and think... if only... Was even having a discussion with DH about who I would like to do it the most!! I voted Gok - he seems to work backwards from the crazy body issues we girls all seem to have

And Bowie - thats not too bad an idea! I hadnt considered online shopping...

I found one EXCELLENT shop assistant at Portmans a couple of years ago (in the Northlands mall Chch) - she was amazing - spent a good hour and a half dressing me and she was brutally honest - I walked out spending way more than I intended and the clothes did me right up until I got UTD... Most shop assistants I have come across either lie and say you look great (when all the flab rolls are coming out to say HI above the jeans), or blatantly dont actually care less!

I psyched myself up for a visit to the mall (with it being a weekday - cheers crazycass) - got halfway there and started getting the guilts for going to spend money on myself...

Ugh what is wrong with us females!!

Its because we are wired to put our families first! :) Have you got any friends you could take with you?

Since I moved to Rotorua I've gotten REALLY bad at shopping for myself - being PG forced me out to buy some new stuff! And honestly try on everything - even if you are not sure - DH did that to me Just before my BFP & I lived in the 2 dresses he'd randomly picked up!

Apparently Shanton has heaps of Merino tunics this year... Glassons is def starting to get in the too young category but is good for a few basics, and the odd item - Good luck with your mission.

When you get on a roll you'll end up with heaps - but feel good about it, sounds like your wardrobe could do with some loving And honestly when was the last time you spent anything decent on yourself??

Bowie: is there no problem sending things back? I presume you have to pay postage, but otherwise thats all?

If so its worth a try!

I find one of the only shops I can usually find good clothing in is Max - and i love Max, but its not always the cheapest option. I agree with Glassons looking a bit young these days..

I love Max (no pun haha) but they are too xxy for me right now. Kim most stores don't charge return postage or if they do its something like $2 so worth me being able to try the things on in the privacy of my own bedroom!

I too find Max wonderful. I usually go in pick a few things I like, try them on, realise I look hideous then a sales assistant comes to my rescue with things that look great on me that I wouldn't have thought of looking at myself.
I usually buy a couple of tops that will go with jeans or skirts and try and get some that can be worn in winter with another top under or by themselves in summer. Also a good tunic top/dress that can be worn with leggings & boots (=nice & comfy in leggings but still looking a bit dressy)
Last time I spend about $300 and got a pair of jeans, a plain black top (for layering or by itself) a tunic and a chiffon cowl neck singlet type top. They all can be mixed and matched so I will get my moneys worth from them.
Whoops sorry for the novel

The other place to check out is bulk lots on TM, I got a bulk lot of maternity clothes off TM for under $100 some of which fitted the rest I shared with another pregnant Mum. It was so nice to have clothing that accommodated my growing bump than trying to squeeze into normal clothes.

Another vote for Max here, they seem to hire people who genuinely want to help you find something that suits and they aren't pushy either.

I find the best strategy is to go childless during the week and tell them exactly what you want (or don't want if that's easier) e.g. long sleeve top to wear casually with jeans, black dress that can be dressed up or down, and let them do the work finding stuff for you to try on.

Cue are also brilliant for good fashion advice, best I've found, but they are $$$

Isabelle - exxy = expensive. They're not actually over the top expensive but i am hoping to lose more weight so too expensive to be an 'in between' wardrobe as it were.

I like Max too - of the few pieces of clothing I've had and worn to pieces, most of them have come from there. But yes, pricier than I usually go for, I only buy things when I really can't resist them.

I don't enjoy shopping for clothes and shoes either, missed those female genes. Love shopping for other things, though!

I am in the same boat , i always head straight for pumpkin patch , cotton on kids etc etc and always do a quick loop of glassons , portmans , just jeans before bolting out the door .

I have found its really good having a few basics that you can mix and match alot with ,  for example in winter i LOVE wearing tights or thick black pantyhose with boots with a long sleeved black top and then i mix and match a dress or tunic over the top so altho i have a different look every day im using the same basics , its just makes life a bit easier and means i only really have to choose one thing to wear (as iv got the same old black tights and tops for underneath) .

good luck with the shopping , go spoil yourself and dont feel guilty about doing it .
