Topic: Really? Thats whats hot? Posted: 04 August 2011 at 1:07pm |
What a good idea to introduce a Hot Topic but come on, is your fave cafe really a HOT topic?
Surely the price of milk and the commerce commission being unable to come to a decision on wether an inquiry should be made is a hot topic!? Or even the RWC and how it is going to affect you?
I am an intelligent woman as are most of us on here (barring the few men we get occasionaly lol!) and cafes and baby smiles arent hot topics and they arent all my life is about and all i am capable of thinking about.

I've found the two HT's great to read, about become a mum for the first time I'm noting where you can go for kiddie friendly outings (luckily I'll be in Auckland lots with family so will be able to take advantage of the suggestions!) - and what I have to look forward to from my baby.
I'm sure once the 'baby basics' are sorted they'll become more topical with the news

Maybe the cafe one might inform some people so could come in handy I guess. The "what your child does to make you smile" one is hardly riveting though, plus not everyone on this site had a child.

I could care less about the RWC or the price of Milk. I'd much prefer to know where the great cafes are and its lovely to read what other Mum's like about their children.
If you want a HT about current affairs try the TM message boards.

You could always choose to start your own thread on something "intelligent"...and leave the cafes to the coffee lovers!
...I think it's important to try and be supportive too!! just read and comment on the things that interest you

Lol I've never cared what cafes were kiddy friendly, probably because 9 years ago when I had my first you just took your baby to whatever cafe you were going to,yes, its good that they have more kid friendly ones now,but I cant say Im on the look out for them,I never read the threads that don't interest me.

I agree with Bizzy - would be good to get some more juicy topics up there
Think maybe they are trying to keep them non-controversial!

I think perhaps the title isnt accurate. Rather than "Hot Topic" it should just be "Topic of the Day".
I guess the idea is to increase the number of active forum members and having something juicy wouldn't do that

If you don't like it don't comment on it... It's up to the people who run the site what questions they ask. What's important to some might not be to others, doesn't make you any less or more intelligent.... I am an intelligent person and my baby's smile is the best thing in my day and I do care about what cafes are good for babies, just as I care about more pressing topics as well....

hee hee too true
Yes call it topic of the day cause "hot topic" bored me after the first reply as I thought finally a "HT" on here
as for my answer on it, I never really had time to sit in a cafe when my kids were preschoolers...don't think I missed out on anything

Kiddy friendly cafes - definitely should be more of them! But even if I venture over to Windsor Cafe I have to grab my coffee in a takeaway cup and run around after him - and it's a big area! Used to take him to cafes when he's a baby but now he's a toddler I only go when he's not around!!! I guess we're all interested in different things. That's the beauty of being able to start your own thread!

@nathansmummy, a friend from coffee group reckoned that Windsor cafe had a policy which meant you couldnt bring in your own food for your kiddies. Have you ever found this?
I have heard that the Library Cafe is the same- though Ive been there, it was when I was still only BFding.

Yeah they might have that policy - but I do anyway. Never have been one to obey all the rules

Hi Bizzy :)
Sometimes Hot Topics can be light and some can be topical...
The intention of the first one was to share some ncie warm fuzzies...
I don't know about you but I'm tired of depressing news in the media all the time, and I figured that what makes you smile is a nice topic to make other people share their happiness.
The Cafe one was inspired by conversation in the office here about where to take the kids - so it was a Hot topic in the office here at least :)
They don't have to be hard line Hot topics - they can become a drag sometimes, that's not to say they don't have their place and we'd LOVE to hear some topics that you'd like to have as HOT topics :) we'd be more than happy to work with them :)
Equally we'd love some hot topics that help us all to feel encouraged and inspired :)
Thanks!

Is complaining about the hot topic a little like complaining about a TV show and needing to be reminded that you can change the channel or turn the TV off? I also consider myself an 'intelligent' woman but I come on this site largely on the premise that it is about pregnancy, babies, children and all things related to that - if I desire riveting debate about the separation of Sudan or the downgrading of America's credit rating there are plenty of other avenues for that...

been away sorry.
Hot Topic i guess implies something different to me. Maybe its the name i have problems with, cafes and baby smiles and stuff like that are after all things that have been talked about on here and other boards since well parenting boards began i suppose.
