DS has his first birthday party invitation, its a boy in our playgroups first birthday. What is an appropriate and not to pricey gift for a 1 year old boy when its not a family member or very close friend. ie. I only see his mom at playgroup once a fortnight.

My first thought was a book - any good 'uns?

Yes, books are a great gift. DS got 100s but he loves them all.
Especially the ones with the little button that makes noise eg, the book is shaped like a tractor and makes a revving noise. Or the books about a cat and it meows IYKWIM?
Anyway, loves them

He also got a chalkboard wall decal, a toy tractor and a toy car x2 and some blocks.

What about some duplo? It's for like 1 1/2+ but he'll be that soon enough...

Books are great! You can get these little shapes and sounds and different types from the warehouse, they are great, my DS got a set for his 1st birthday, and he just loved them! Not expensive either.

Oohh my wee guy at nearly one LOVES plain wooden blocks, we spend ages stacking them up together and smashing them down.

Books definitely a go-er, can NEVER have enough books in my opinion.

He also loves toy phones. Wee matchbox cars are great cos they go "brrmmmm" everywhere with him hehe!

we've also go this stupid wee elmo head thing on wheels, which sits inside a wee bubble, and the top moves up and down when you move it and it makes dumb elmo noises. He loves it cos its got a string to drag it along and wheels and it makes noises typical boy! Hehe.

He also loves things he has to 'put together'.... And he LOOOOVES daddys toolbelt and playing with the tools.
