Ok... another question - sorry girls! I'm looking for somewhere that allows 1 day a week for daycare. Does anyone know anywhere on the North Shore - we live in Albany so preferably somewhere around Albany/Glenfield/Bays?

I know that home-based care often does one day, but I'd probably prefer a daycare.

Thanks!

I'm not in Auckland but I couldn't find anywhere in Wellington that did one day a week so would assume Auckland would be the same, especially since they would probably have long waiting list. Barnados also said they didn't do less than 12hrs a week.

Most daycares aren't keen on kids only going 1 day a week as it makes it very hard for settle it. A while ago we cut back E daycare from 2 days to 1 because of my work hrs but she became so unsettled (she had settled in previously and had been there for around 9 mths) that I had to move her back to 2 days.

I know our daycare is a minimum of 2 days a week, but early on DS would often go for just 1 day but Id still pay for 2 as a way round it.

From a childcare perspective, as Mum2ET said it is really hard on the child going 1 day a week as for a little one it is a really long time for them between sessions so it is like starting all over again for them.. if you think of a 2 year old then 1 year is half their life, for a 30yr old that same time is 15yrs.. its to late for me to break it right down but i hope you see what i am getting at If you can afford it go the 2 days as it makes it so much easier for him and also you

Amy - sorry i'm not a huge help - but we go to Tots on Triton, and it's fab. My DS is also 21mths and he loves it there, the ladies are lovely and the food is really good. They only accept 2 days a week there tho - for the reasons mentioned above, its a bit more settling for them to go twice a week. But at Tots you can just do a short day (i think its 9 till 3:30) so you could do 2 short days - or one short and one long - which helps with routine and cost.

Hey guys, thanks for all your help. I understand now why they have a minimum of 2 days and you're right, it does make sense so that they can settle well. Turns out that I can actually get him an extra morning at creche so I might look into getting him a nanny just for that afternoon - do any of you have any good recommendations for a company/person that would do just one afternoon at our house - say 12pm - 4:15pm?
