My 14 week old isn't making much eye contact. We have had his eyes tested and have an appointment with a paedatrician next week but just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and when it came right. He occasionally looks at us but only for a few seconds and although he smiles it is never at our faces. However whenever I take him in front of the full lengh mirror he will look at my reflection and smile but then bury his face as in me as if he is embarresed that he got caught smiling.
His hearing had also been tested. We are hoping it is just his personality.

Hey I'm fairly certain my youngest didn't make much eye contact when he was this little, and he is perfectly fine now, I always thought it was probably that he couldn't focus that close on my face, as long as he is looking at things and following them he should be fine, try moving toys across his face at different distances. I think all babies do things at different times and yours is still very little so he will get there eventually.

Does he not like looking at anyone or just not the person holding him?

Kiara never wanted to look at or have eye contact with the person holding her, she preferred looking at other people and objects who were that bit further away. She wasn't too keen on that up close and personal eye contact at all.

Shes fine with it now and her eyes seem fine so far too.
Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!

I was really worried about this when DD was little as it took her 14 weeks to learn to smile and even then she didn;t like eye contact and would just smile randomly not at me. I had her eyes and hearing checked and she was fine, just took a while longer than everyone else to do it. You'd never know now though, she attracts people and is not shy at all.

She also was really slow to learn to hold her head up (16 weeks), roll over (10 months), crawl (13 months) and walk (17 months). You can't tell now though!

If you haven't already done it get some black and white pictures for him to look at as they are easier for them to focus on and that might encourage him to make more eye contact.

My first was the same. He would never look at anyone in the eyes. I got a little worried about his eye sight but he is fine as. He just preferred to look past us at blank walls and windows... He likes the light! I find now he is not so much a people person. My second loves people and making contact and he loved looking at us as a baby! I wonder if it is a sign of personality now but that wondering is only based on 2 children so not scientific!.
I'm sure yours will be fine but if you are worried about eye sight then use toys or even a not too bright light and see if his eyes follow that. Each child does these things at their own pace.
