Am planning to start charting temp for ov this month. Period due tomorrow. What is the difference between a digital thermometer and a Basal thermometer? Don't want to go out and spen money if my own is accurate enough.

A Basal is more accurate because it gives you 2 decimal points. I used a digital and it was fine because the temp drop was not so slight that you need 2 decimal points. Ovulation was clear from the digital (cheaper) thermometer. Does that make sense? Most important thing is to temp at the same time every morning after being asleep for a few hours. If you do at different times or get up and go to the loo it doesn't work at all. I set my alarm for early then went back to sleep. Good luck!

I used a cheepie digital thermometer when I started temping, it only had one decimal point 0.0 and it worked fine. You could clearly see OV etc. The batteries didnt last very long tho so I got a new Basal 2 decimal point thermometer 0.00 and works great lasted 5x as long as the cheepie one and still going strong.

Baby4u had Basal thermometer for about $18 I think + postage

But yes as Pixie said taking your temp the same time everyday and after a good sleep is most important
