DD is BF on demand and won't feed when we are out and about as she's too distracted.

She is now on solids and will happily devour a small jar of food and drink from her sippy cup when we are out.

Does it matter that she's missing out on milk feeds? What can I do to stop her being distracted?

Lol its totally embarrassing when they get distracted in public and pull on and off and give smiles to people with your nipple showing aye lol.

I use to use a muslin wrap or something to jsut drape over my sholder and over her face to try and keep her focused, didn't always work though.

I found DD was always too nosey to feed well in Public. The only thing i could do was find a place a private and quiet as possible and still this didn't always work.

I figured if she was starving she would feed. So if she was being too noisy i would just give her water and solids and she was happy. But i would make an effort to offer her more opportunities to feed when we got home.

Mine was the same with getting distracted in public. I guess it depends how much time you spend out and about. If it's a lot of time, you might want to try feeding her somewhere more quiet like in the car or in a parents room if you can find one, if only to make it more comfortable for yourself and to keep your supply up. I don't think you generally need to worry too much about babies' feeding habits - they eat when they're hungry and let you know when they want the boob.

Yup DD does the same, unfortunatly I have had to feed in bathrooms before if there are no parent rooms as she just wont stay on if there is anything going on. She has slowly got better and if really hungry will stay on for a while if i go to a quiet public place

Mine was the same as well and if you can do it somewhere quiet like in the car or a parents rooms then try that but I found DD would only have a very, very quick feed and that was it until we got home.

If she feeds on demand, she isn't technically 'missing' a milk feed coz she didn't demand it
Just go with the flow, if she doesn't want it when you're out, she'll make up for it later when she does want it
Don't stress

Ollie is the same. I have to use a feeding cover now as it's just far too embarrassing to be exposed constantly!

Some things that have helped have been:
- Using the car or parent's room (though the rooms can be as exciting as the next place)
- Using a breastfeeding cover - I got a good one on TradeMe that has an opening so I can still see Ollie
- Wearing a necklace that he can play with while he drinks

However, it dawned on me last night (so funny that you should post this today) that now he'll take some solids, I can just do that while we're out. I don't think missing a couple of feeds a week will hurt him and chances are he'll make it up later. Given how badly he drinks when we're out, it hardly seems to be worth the hassle.

I'd only be concerned if it were every day and/or you thought she wasn't compensating later in the day.

Jacob tends not to feed anywhere that's not his room now (as in, not even our lounge if there's anyone else - or the cat - to look at). He just gets too distracted - he might have a few sucks, but that's it. Using a muslin doesn't work (he's just really interested in it and wants to play with it!) and I've taken to wearing necklaces just for him (the things you do for love ) but they don't help in public.

I just figure if he needed it, he'd drink. I usually take pots of baby custard to feed him when we're out (becuase he loves it, and as he often doesn't eat when he's distracted either, I know I can get that down him!), and I give him some water - I figure he's getting something a little bit milk-like in the custard, and it won't hurt him.

The parent's room is as exciting as anywhere else. Its only around lunch time and only one feed really when we are out. She'll happily eat solids (I tend to give her the fruit ones) and drink water so she's not hungry.

She drinks pretty heavily (makes her sound like a drunkard) in the morning and before she goes to bed.

I've tried drapeing a muslin over us but she plays with it.

I wouldn't worry about it then Fleur!

And from what I have seen of Catherine, she looks like she's doing just wonderful.
