I was just thinking about what to do over easter with regards to doing traditions.....I have put easter eggs at the bottom of the bed for my son for a few years and done egg hunts but now I have three to buy for Im thinking I need to cut it back to doing only one of those otherwise it can get a bit costly. Probably the easter egg hunt but that requires lots of little eggs and I do like to buy a main egg each.
I also have bought some hot cross buns and croissants and gonna have a nice yummy brunch on Sunday.

It got me wondering what other peoples traditions are with regards to easter and treats etc......Do you wait until Sunday? I know obviously the religious tradition is for hot cross buns on friday and eggs on sunday........

So what are your traditions??

(as a kid we never did any easter egg hunting)

Hey Lou I've been thinking about traditions too....I'm going to make hot X buns tomorrow and get Blake to help out (hahaha....which will mean help make a big mess)
I like the idea of blowing and decorating eggs e.g glitter dye etc
If you wanted to save a bit of money you could have the kids do a treasure hunt to find 1 or 2 small eggs at the end - you know, write clues/directions. More for older kids I guess.
Hmmm, might google it for some inspiration!

We don't really have any traditions. This yr I wanted to spend less on eggs but it has not happened. My kids don't get eggs from others & only now & then from DH's parents. They got one yesterday from them that they scoffed straight away.

We have bought them a bag each with a bunny & 3 little eggs in...DH has already given it to them..school holidays
We also got them a pack of 3 they were on special for about $6 each & will get them Sunday & I have a few tiny eggs for the egg hunt but need to get some a little bigger.

Last yr DH let then pick one & it cost nearly $90 grr cause of the toy in the packs so no way was that happening again this yr.

I think I have spent $35 on 3 kids which is not bad. I would be quite happy just doing an egg hunt but DH gets sucked in to the whole spend money on eggs thing. Maybe next yr.

A friend spent over $50 on eggs for her 1 child she let him pick what he want with a limit of $50...

We have not got any hot x buns, the kids don't eat them & I don't need anything with butter added to it at the moment

Haven't got any eggs this easter DD is too little and Dh and I can do without the chocolate fix. IL's are arriving today and they will have chocolate eggs with them.

Usually with Dh I buy one big egg and either a bag of caramel ones or marshmallow eggs.

I have got Hot X Buns for breakfast today. They're my favourite part of Easter.

We will do an Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning now that DD is old enough and my nephew will come up to our house for that as well. Just a few small eggs and then a marshmallow bunny at the end. My mum & dad get the kids winter pj's instead of an egg but both my Nanas buy eggs for the kids so it gets a little like a chocolate overload and then my sisters buy them eggs and yeah WAY to much chocolate in the end. I am also hoping to do some easter baking over the weekend maybe some cupcakes and biscuits more for the fun of it and the decorating not so much the eating of it.

I hope to teach DD the real meaning of Easter once she is old enough to understand.

Im from sweden and there we buy easter eggs made out of carton(colourful with different motives) they get filled with lollies and maybe a little plastic toy. Then you tie a different coloured ribbon on each one and they are hidden in the garden. The kids get given a colour each and have to find the egg that has the their colour on it. I plan on doing that for DD when she is older as im not a big fan of all the chocholate.

I buy one packet each of the marshmallow eggs (but not for me as I dont like them) and one main egg with a theme. This year DS 7 has a WWF egg in a mug and DS16months has a hotwheels one with a bowl, mug and spoon.   DS15 is getting a block of chocolate cos well hes old enough to not need the egg thing. I have gotten myself some giant chocolate cadbury buttons (otherwise I would miss out if I didnt buy for myself)

I have also bought a carton of Cadburys eggs (15 pack of hollow ones for $8.99) to hide around the garden. My MIL normally buys the kids PJs instead of chocolate but she has realised that cos I dont have any family that its just us buying for the kids so they dont get much so she was nice and did up a basket for the kids as well as the PJs.......I think I will hide that in one spot in the garden as the main prize. Last year we did a treasure bunny map and showed the places the eggs were hidden. Will do that again.

Im thinking baking is a good idea over the weekend. I almost hope it rains one day so we can have a stay inside baking day

With my 3 I got them a dino egg each which was $6 and thats it from us. At daycare they made easter baskets and hotcross buns and fudge then had an easter egg hunt so have had all of that.
We sometimes do a treasure hunt but with maybe one egg and things like bubbles or balls just so we don't end up with lots of chocolate.

I don't buy easter eggs for hubby and I but my work gave me a big easter egg so we will just share that.

we do small easter eggs on Friday outside DD's room that she can go mad on until Sunday. We have hot cross buns on Friday and Monday. Sunday we all get a bigger easter egg with treats in it.

Thats all we doo. DS gets nothing as he is too little but he will share some of ours.

Oooh I love the idea of buying new winter PJs for Easter - perfect timing - might have to start that one next year.

I think baking is a good idea too - we've had lots of hot cross bun baking in this house.... what are some other good things people are baking for easter?

Growing up our tradition was church and hot cross buns on Friday, and church and easter eggs on Sunday. Church isn't really a part of my life (unless I'm visiting my parents), but I still have hot cross buns and eggs. Although this year I didn't buy DF an egg - he is not religious in any way and couldn't understand why we'd have eggs, especially when we're trying to not eat chocolate and lost weight...
