DD is coming up 2 weeks old. I am breastfeeding but having a real issue with trapped wind/Gripey tummy in the afternoons (5pm - 8pm). She always gives me 1-2 good burps after a feed and will also spill occasionally but it's like she holds on to a bit each feed and it builds up until she is in agony in the evening?
DH is a baker and about to start back at work so having a slight meltdown at the fact that I am tied up with gripey DD when I need to be preparing tea, bathing and bedding DS.

Have you tried gripe water or infacol, also have you looked at your diet?
I avoided windy foods for the first 6 weeks as DD was and a very windy baby.

Rhugar (sp?) is also a good one to try. I found that cutting out dairy stopped my DD from being as windy- it was mainly me drinking milk. Try burping her then letting her lie down for a wee bit then try again, it sometimes helps to settle their tuumys a bit.

a bath always helped our little guy get his wind up...how early in that 5-8 period is your wee one having a bath?

good luck...the witching hours are hard work!

colimed spray from nutrapharm (i think thats how you spell it)was great. and gripe water. Also - if you can hack it drink lots of peppermint tea and chamomile tea yourself. We actually started sleeping our wee man on his tummy from about 8 weeks which also did wonders (controversial i know....) we have an angel care monitor and hes pretty strong in the neck. Unwrapped of course! Our Osteo said its the best thing cause it stretches out tummy and massages air out.

You can also try cycling her legs while lying on her back. Or leaning her back against your tummy and pulling her knees up to her tummy a few times. Make sure she has a nappy on though as could get a bit messy otherwise. GL

Thank you all for your suggestions. Have cut out windy foods and, after speaking to a good friend, have got on to fennel tablets. Taken 3 times a day with food they are said to relieve colic in babies and aid in digestion! Not sure if it's a combination of these plus a few different winding techniques but seems we are getting on top of it. Still have the odd gripey time but she seems a lot easier to wind.

DH is burping DS as I type and I read out Rovic's suggestion of leaning his back against your tummy and pulling his legs up and it worked instantly

I swear by infacol(at every feed) and gripe water, and I would lay them over my lap and pat their bum firm(not hard but firm)patting their bum is nicer for them and actually works better as it vibrates up and gets the wind bubbles up. Both my kids were very windy babies!

Had exactly the same issue in the early days. we tried the Rhyger drops they seemed to help abit, but ended up that a half dose of gaviscon worked the best and i limited dairy. sounds like you may of found a solution that works for you anyway tho, good luck! also we tilted her bed on a wee angle.

So little miss is just over 3 weeks old and we are still having our good and bad wind days. Have resorted to Gripe Water every now and then and even caved and bought a bottle of Infacol (but haven't used it yet). I noticed on the Infacol bottle that the dosage starts from 1month+. Is 3 weeks old too early to use it??
We have been to the osteopath and have a follow up appointment next week.
Spoke to my midwife but felt she didn't believe me when I said DD was windy and that I really had to work hard to get her wind up. Thank you for all your suggestions.

DS was super windy too - plunket gave me this tip and it works quite well for him: after a feed get burps up then onto the tum for a bit. When you pick her up try burping again, apparently the squirming on the tum helps break up wind bubbles. He got way more efficient at bringing up his wind at about 6 weeks though and we hardly have any windy problems anymore - the end may be near! Other then that watch your diet, oily food, milk, onions, spicey food etc all got to him.
