Topic: Kids Sharing A Room Posted: 14 April 2011 at 9:21pm |
How does this work for you?
I was considering moving my two girls into the same room, they are both young and have close age, but problem being, they both wake up at stupid o'clock (anywhere between 3-5am) chat away to themselves before falling back to sleep, and at the moment the youngest (6 months old) is teething. When did your kids start sharing a room? am I better off waiting til they are older or do it early so they get used to sharing?

We have 2 babies in one room, my almost 1 yr old and my SILs almost 3 mth old (exactly 40 weeks between them) it was hard yards the first few weeks and I would recommend if you can, seeing how naps during the day go first so they sort of get used to seeing each other in there.
After that just prepare for one waking the other up for up to a week and then they get used to each other and in our case both tend to sleep throuh and majority of time won't wake up to the other.
Also make sure there is no squeaky door!
I would say earlier is better in a way, cause then they really won't remember any other way and they are so adaptable at that age.

Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!

They get used to each others noises so quickly and don't wake each other up even when crying! It still amazes me!
I would do it sooner rather than later too. They adjust much easier the younger than are, I think.

Notenufchaos, thats what I was planning on doing, wait until dd2 started sleeping through the night but we wake her up alot, plus with us down with a cold, we are sleeping in the lounge room, be nice to have our own room again. We do have a 3rd bedroom but its a tiny room at on the other end of our house (the cold side) so if it doesn't work, I guess we will move into that one.. not keen!

So good to know that it can work, I hear them chatting away in their own space and think, oh no! Do I want them playing and "talking" all night?? But won't know unless I give it go

We where going to wait till our youngest slept through before putting them in the same room, but then we moved house so thought the time was right, first week was a bit up and down, but they do get use to each other, they can now sleep through each others cries, and they sleep in bunks and don't get disturbed by each other's movements, we now have the opposite an they don't like going to bed with out each other now
There is 21 1/2 months between them, good luck

All my kids share a room. There is no way we could get a house big enough for them to have their own. My 10yr old son shares with my 13mth old twin sons. My four daughters share a room. And my two nieces who live with us share..they all seem to love it, but they don't know any different. They get used to eachothers noises etc and learn to sleep thru them. They can be rascals too tho lol and sit in their rooms playing and talking rather then sleeping!
