Due to previous feeding issues with my DS, I am determined to get off to a good start this time. I went to the health shop to look at various products to help boost supply etc but to be honest I am not sure which is the best and they are quite expensive so I want to make the right choice.

In your experiences would you suggest:
*blessed milk thistle
*milk flow spray
*fenugreek
*weleda nursing tea
*NONE of the above
*SOMETHING else

And to be honest, my issues last time may in part have been due to latch problems....!

Thanks!!

I have tried the milk flow spray, fenugreek and blessed thistle (not a milk one, didnt know there was one). NONE of these worked for me! However lactation cookies work a bit and are yummy. I find that if I have plenty of water and LOTS of protein- meat is best- then my supply picks up after a day or so. I didnt have any problems at the start, just once my supply settled down every so often my milk seems to overnight fade away. Lots of feeding and pumping after feeding also helps. Good luck

I found the milk flow spray helped. And I also used the welda nursing tea which i think helped too.

You can also have just brewers yeast on toast, which I think is the active ingredient in lactation cookies? Might be an acquired taste though. I've always liked it anyway, so am having it often although milk seems ok so far. Am hoping supply stays ok if I ramp up the running again.

I tried absolutely EVERYTHING and ended up using domperidone (you need a prescription for this). Was the only way I could breastfeed past 2 months old and took myself off it when DS was 6 months....now he only has a BF morning and night and is FF the rest of the time :)

I'm taking fenugreek, milk flow tablets and domperidone and within 48 hours had a noticeable increase in supply, but was also latching incorrectly until then so its anyones guess as to which boosted it first!

Also finding the more water I drink the more milk I have too!

I second the brewers yeast. I used to have mine in yoghurt and it dramatically increased my supply. Also nursing to your babys cues instead of feeding to a schedule can help increase and maintain supply as well as lots of skin to skin in the early days

I used fenugreek and blessed thistle. Not really too sure if it helped as I didnt notice a difference in my supply but Jackson was more settled and started gaining weight better one I started. Perhaps it helped with the fat rather than supply for me.

I used everything - blessed thistle, fenugreek, nursing tea, domperidone, brewer's yeast, pumping like a moo cow, you name it!!

I think what really really did the trick though was acupuncture, I managed to stop taking the domperidone & bf my little guy for 8 months (with one formula bottle a day, at night when I couldn't muster up enough milk for him!). I definitely noticed my milk looked creamier when I was taking blessed thistle?

I needed something when DS was about 4 months old. At the health store Blessed Thistle capsules were the cheapest product and they def worked.

I tried Milk Flow Spray, Weleda Nursing tea and Artemis Breastfeeding Tea and I swear by the Artemis tea. I could absolutely notice my supply was reduced if I forgot the tea for a day.

Whereabouts are you Rainbow? I have a packet of the tea I won't use that you can have.

Well I have had supply issues with both DS and DD and in the end only domperidone helped when things got really bad (went on the mini pill). However, I also found that fenugreek was awesome (but $$$ to use long term), brewers's yeast in the afternoons (I have to have it in yogurt or juice otherwise it tastes pretty foul), and the Artemis tea, which was also fab for settling windy babies.

And pumping as well but I found that very hard to do with a toddler running around.

I tried everything I could to see what would work. Something did, not sure what which is the down side of trying everything! Am still taking the domperidone as want to keep bf and paranoid to stop. As well as the suggestions above, you could try red bush tea. This works for some people. I usually have a cup a day when I am working. Is an aquired taste but I quite like it now and is so much cheaper as is from the supermarket. Also, when I remember I take lactation drops that a local natropathic clinic makes. So many people recommended them to me, including 2 LC's, the Breastfeeding Centre and the family centre. Check out any clinics in your area to see what they do or pm me if youwant the details of the guy here. Good luck!
