I don't know what to do - work has offered me a trip to a conference in perth for 4 nights in July. I'd be presenting and it's a great opportunity for my career, but not the end of the world if I didn't go - a colleague is going anyway and could give my talk too. But I've never spent a night away from DD. She'd be in daycare the days I'd be away anyway, so it'd only be the nights/mornings she'd be expect to see me - and DH would stay here with her. I'm aiming to be weaned by about then, but it might double as the final step in weaning her. I'll be 29 weeks pregnant as well by then. I don't want to trigger massive separation anxiety or anything, especially if it'll take a while to get back on track seeing as it's not all that long before #2 would arrive. We'll have 3 days off together when I get back. So, do I, or don't I?

Its a big step, I went away last year to be bridesmaid in England for 2 weeks and left the kids at home with my hubby and MIL the kids were at daycare which helped.
It was hard for me and I missed them heaps, but they had spent time away from me before so that bit they were used to.

Could you pissably go away for just a night before you go and see how both you and her feel?

I agree, try and do a night away before then and see how you all go? At least you can then go away knowing everything will be ok.

I did 4 nights away with work recently and I think I missed DD and DH more than they missed me...they had a ball!

Stuff happened around sep/oct last year, I guess DS would have been 14mths then, I had to spend a bunch of long weekends away without him. He goes to daycare and had DH for the rest of it.
He was a bit more clingy than usual when I was home, and then I'd be away the next weekend again. He was a bit upset by it, but it was always very short lived.
Like he'd be so happy to see me, I couldn't put him down but that'd only last 1/2 hour.

Then it just so happened that (different) stuff happened this weekend and i was away for 2 nights again. This time he's 19mths, he couldn't have cared less (sad but true). He was happy to see me, I got a hug and a great big 'MUMMY ' and then he was over it.

I missed him way more than he missed me. Yay for having a well adjusted toddler, but not good for my ego.

My DD had a night away from me with DH at her grandparents, she was happy as, pleased to see me but coped just fine. Now we are a planning two nights away, for some parent time and I can't wait. I'd try doing something like that first and see how it goes.
