Topic: Windy babies and introducing solids Posted: 14 February 2011 at 2:28pm |
Do the foods that cause wind in bf babies effect them the same when they are on solids?
At our plunket meeting today we had the solids talk, and a lot of the first foods they suggested ie: melon and stone fruits are also associated with wind.

That's what I thought would be her first foods as well.
Thinks like paw paw, rock melon and apricots and plums seemed a bit much for her small tummy and expensive too.

Were you given a Watties leaflet at all? Has a list of ideal first foods (stage 1) and then stage 2, 3...
But also mentioned was banana, apple, pear, pumpkin, kumara, potato. All pureed although was told not to start before 6 months but to start at 6 months when they were ready (confusing much!) so we started DD at 6 months (although suspect she could have gone longer without) and we ended up doing BLW instead on purees.

I gave DS papaya (paw paw) as a puree fairly early on because it's cheap cheap and plentiful here. It goes straight through them!! Apricot I used to soak and boil dried ones to add to chicken but only once he was eating meat proteins, so not till 7-8 months. Melon he had in a mesh feeder, again watermelon goes straight through them too Papaya is a good one to help with constipation
I'm surprised those fruits are suggested as first foods because as you say they're not exactly readily available year-round in nz.

Nope I hate watties have been recommended Annabel Karmel's books for introducing solids, think we'll do a mix of purees and blw.

We did a mix of Purees (home made - least I could eat the left overs ) and BLW but (but more BLW) - normally everyone I've spoken to gets handed that regardless just so you have a 'rough' idea.
