Topic: Food Question.. Posted: 08 February 2011 at 3:56pm |
Hi
Im wanting to start making some food for DS myself, i do this alot but dont really freeze it. Im looking for ideas on what would freeze well and defrost good so i can have either lunches or teas already pre done in the freezer for when i need. DS is 9 months and likes his food lumpy and sometimes even whole pieces, He does get a little bit of exzema but nothing to really worry about. I would love some ideas on what foods i could do please
TIA

I use to make like a chicken, pasta and vege thing for her, the pasta keeps it lumpy as doesn't blend up real smooth. Just boil a chicken breast, chop, veges (whatever he's in to) and pasta and blend.
Bologanaise sauce? you can crush the mince up so its still a bit lumpy...
Mini shepherd pies - they were a hit here and you can add veges like peas and corn and carrot as well as the patato top.
Mini fish pies - tinned tuna mixed with potato and cheese on top.

I use to freeze everything. Id buy little containers. But we went through it pretty quickly so it was never in the freezer long.
I would do just veges mash them up. Also shepards pie, fish pie etc. Anything we made that could be mashed up i would put some aside for dd.

we still freeze a lot for DS as he loves 'saucy' type dinners. he loves casseroles and stuff done in the slow cooker (and they freeze really well) i also use the cook in the pot packets, apricot chicken and curried sausages are huge favs (although your DS may be a bit young for that just yet) i also do things with couscous and risottos

My favourite one that I used to make for DS was Morocan lamb. I put lamb, onions, garlic, pumpkin, chicken stock, tinned tomatoes, cumin, and corriander in the slow cooker and then added cous cous after I had given the rest of it a quick whiz up.

I used to freeze apricot chicken, fish pie, bolognese sauce, beef casserole, lamb casserole, chicken and apple balls and mashed veges for DS around that age. Annabel Karmel has lots of "family favourite" type recipes that are suitable for your son's age if you google or try getting one of her books from the library? Basically just your normal recipe but no salt, low salt (or no salt) stock or water, all "real" ingredients.
