I ruptured a vein in my leg and have been advised to not pick the kids up, yeah right! Today after a walk/bike ride I ended up having to carry the youngest to the car, a not unusual event, this was after trying to put him a pram and him not having a bar of it. I'm pretty much sold on getting a manduca for the baby but wondered about buying it now and using it to back carry K (roughly 13kg) not a lot but just occasions like today as I think he would love it and maybe might be better for my dodgy vein? but is it ok to do that during pregnancy?

I wouldn't know but has your LMC referred you to a physio? If that is possible (it is for some things but I haven't come across ruptured vein before) s/he will be able to help you more on those kind of things too.

She is going to refer me to get a compression stockings, we are just waiting for the swelling/bruising to go down. Apart from the stockings there is little I can do except try not to stand/sit for extended periods, lie on my sides lots, not lift the boys/carry the boys, do pelvic floor exercises and also found some yoga moves that are suppose to help as well but mostly the thing that will help is not being pregnant...lol as with most pregnancy things.

I asked this on TNN and got a unanimous "it's fine, here are the pictures of me backcarrying while 7+ months PG". If you're comfortable, then I'd say it's fine unless your MW says no. The reality is you're going to have to carry him - the carrier just makes it easier b/c he's in one place, not wriggling around and you're not twisting around so much.

Thanks, I have mw on tuesday so will run it past her, I imagine she will say don't pick him up, but she's never had kids so as awesome as she is with the whole getting babies out bit I think she doesn't really understand what it's like to have little kids who don't get it when I try to explain that I can't pick them up.

Talked to DH about it, he wasn't keen on the price but I'm sure he can be persuaded.

I back carried C a few times in the ergo when I was pregnant. Only thing I found a bit annoying was having to wear the carrier a lot lower than usual because my bump was low. One of my friends could still front carry her DD at 6 months pregnant
