Topic: Sick of pink!! Posted: 30 January 2011 at 9:42am |
I'm not toataly anti pink I'm sure DD will end up wearing plenty but I'm really trying to find some funky girls clothes that are other colours too. I live in a smallish town so we are a bit limited when it comes to shopping for kids clothes but I'm more than happy to buy stuff online. Any suggestions?

Just surrender to it - the pink frilly invasion of your house is unstoppable .
But I'm not a huge pink fan either. There are some nicer pinks out there though, but my DD also wears lots of greens, oranges and even blues. Some are just plain, some are outright boys clothes and some have a style or pattern to make it a little girly eg a navy shirt with red bambi on the front. The other thing I do is match a boyish looking top with more girly pants/skirt and/or hat.
Virtually all my stuff is second hand off Trademe but the brands are common like Pumpkin Patch, Baby Gap, Cotton On etc. So just make sure you have a good look through the usual (online) stores plus look at the boys stuff also to see what might work.

I often buy blues, yellow's greens and have found that even in pink people still tell me what a lovely boy! Go figure!
PP have some nice non-pink things atm.

I hear ya! While pregnant I told everybody that I hated pink and therefore only ended up with a smallish amount of pink clothes as presents.
I like Cotton on Kids but don't think they have a online store for NZ. I've just ordered stuff from Babu while they had their sale on which is mainly grey and white.
Other than that I often browes the boy section in stores and online as they often have stuff which is also suitable for boys. Kmart have a nice selection too I found.

I'm the same! I found an awesome pair of little green and orange brushed cotton dungarees in a 2nd hand store the other day and literally fell over the counter with them because there wasn't any pink in sight

I find NZ to be particularly bad with this 'trend'!
I don't remember that girls in Germany used to be dressed in 50 shades of pink, but that may be different nowadays?
I find colours like grey, red, sage, natural really lovely (N-A-T-U-R-E-B-A-B-Y)
I don't buy pink in general, have a few pink striped things or some rose couloured items that I have bought but somehow her drawers are mainly pink!
Every clothes gift that we get is either pink or purple. So I let her wear most of the pink stuff for food time, brown banana stains on pink

LOL Good on ya!
We have a pink invasion too, or white Its horrible, but there is not much out there in other colours unless you have money to pay for them. Most of our stuff is off trade me, and the rest was given, and is pink/purple, and I hate it, but when you got no dollars you use what you got.

I loved PP's stuff, last year and summer 07 ranges were red, white and blue (nautical themes) without a spot of pink in sight... needless to say I spent a lot of time at my local outlet and on TM getting stuff fromm the S07 range as I cant stand pink!
Might pay to search on TM, or online stores if you have limited sotres locally?

Pink hater here too.
But then I also don't like boys wearing blue ALL the time.
Kmart is good and Trademe....I only shop at Pumpkin Patch if we have been given vouchers because I think it's ridiculous to spend that much on kids clothes when they grow out of them so quick! But that's another topic.
You could always just buy the pink stuff and dye it different colours

T&T have some gorgeous little girls clothes, and a lot of it is non-pink! We have a black tee and purple tee with a printed silver necklace, light grey cargos, black tights, leggings and shorts, purple l/sleeve top with black and silver fairy on the front (with sparkly bits, I might not like pink, but I still love sparkly stuff hehe) A red/white/black stripy sleeved top, matching jacket... lots of clothes without a dot of pink from there... although there are a few items that have pink on them, cant quite escape it entirely... luckily my girl looks better in light blues and purples than she does in pink

I was anti pink to, but DD really suites it more than any colour with her pink cheeks, bright blue eyes and blond hair, plus it has grown on us. Her room hardly has any pink in though.
I live in a small town to and we only have a Postie Plus here. They are actually really great when it comes to colour. There is not one colour that there is more off. Tones of girly blue, green, yellow and red clothes.

I've definately noticed that some of the pricier labels are staying away from pink and I'll get a couple of special things but there's a limit to how much I'm prepared to spend.
I think I might hold out on the shopping till DD is a few weeks old and we head to Auckland. Then it'll be a case of watch out credit card I'm goin shopping!!

I'm not a huge fan of the pink explosion either. My girls have some pink clothes, but I like oranges and yellows (suit my eldest) and reds and greens (suit my youngest). Also there are some nice girls clothes in lovely shades of blues.

It gets easier as they get older! Today my DD is wearing a denim skirt and blue top, and she doesn't have mainly pink stuff anymore. For the first year though she was pretty much always in pink as everyone knew I was having a girl so we only got given pink stuff
