Topic: Rough Weekend.... Posted: 02 April 2007 at 9:33am |
Hi guys,
I thought I would share here, because I am feeling a tad irrational at the moment - hopefully people can reassure me as I feel a bit awful right now!
I had a really mixed weekend of happiness and sadness. On Saturday the wife of one of my best friends had a wee baby. I am really stoked for them, of course, but feeling a bit sad as his wife and I both found out we were pregnant at the same time last year. So it is kind of a reminder of the baby I lost and it's a bit hard to deal with.
And then on Sunday morning my sister-in-law called to say that she is pregnant. Again, I am really happy for her... she is newly wed and they had planned to have a family straight away. She's going to be a fantastic mum.
However, a little bit of me feels irrationally gutted - they have been married for just ten weeks and are nine weeks pregnant... and here I am still trying after ten months.
I feel horrible for even having these unhappy feelings....
And I know the "average" time for a couple to get pregnant is 9 cycles.... however, I feel that average is probably a little swayed in the favour of people who are trying but not charting or testing for ovulation. There are a lot of people out there trying to have a baby but have absolutely no idea about fertile times etc etc. I guess I just feel that when you're putting in the effort to really know how this pregnancy thing works... well, then the time taken should reduce a little. And I am sure it does for those who are not having any conception problems.
Anyway, that's my wee rant for Monday morning. Sorry to be a downer.

Don't worry Laurie - what you're feeling is quite normal for someone who has been TTC for a wee while. I've been sitting here twiddling my thumbs for nearly 2 years, and had yet another period start on me a couple of days ago. You're quite entitled to feel how you feel, and it's just one of those things! Try not to feel too bad. Every month, it's a roll of the dice!

Thanks guys. The emotions are so much in turmoil. I am really happy for both families in this case, but can't help feeling the green eyed monster too.
And then I just start to feel more down because I don't like feeling negative like that!!
Give me a couple of days and I'll be right again!!

to you Laurie. I know what you mean about the green eyed monster - although we've only just started TTC, I have wanted a baby for 4-5 years (waiting for partner to be ready). It was ok at first but so many of my family and friends had babies in the last few years and there are a few still pregnant now and I soooo envied them. It was horrible too because everyone keeps asking "So are you next?" or "When are you going to have one?". Would feel like wholloping them
It is tough having all that around you so I hope you feel better soon

Hugs Laurie. I've been thru similar jealousy/guilt cycles myself, it's completely natural.
I had a friend due the same time as me with the baby I lost and even tho I was a good 6-7 mths pregnant with the gremlins when she had her wee boy I still felt jealous. Craxy huh?!

Thanks girls, I feel a bit more normal, but I am really unhappy for feeling like this. I don't like all this resentment in my heart - it's not the person I want to be but I feel like I've lost control... eek!

That's the great thing about being human Laurie. We have feelings - and good or bad they get us through to the other end a much stronger person. And you haven't lost control - you're just going through a very emotional time right now.
Hugs for ya babe, hang in there

Well, last night I thought I needed some cheering up so....
I bought some GHDs! Been after them for ages and just thought damn it, I deserve it.
Sounds a very Ginger thing to do, doesn't it? Still trying to figure out how I can make them free!!

First, what the hell are GHDs, and how much are we talking ...? I can do just about anything when it comes to spending justification!
At the moment, while you're TTC, you're in a shopping happy place. When I first started TTC, each month when my period arrived, I'd go and buy myself something really cool, or that I really wanted, on the basis that because I wasn't pregnant that month, I'd have at *least* an extra month's salary at the other end before I'd have to stop work for maternity leave And really, what's one little splurge on some GHDs, compared to a month's extra salary?? Exactly!

GHDs are the cool hair straighteners that the hairdressers use. They make my hair pretty, and I really needed them.
They sell for $380 in the salons but I have purchased them from overseas (international warranty, buyer protection all included) for what works out to be NZ $250.
So, I've saved $130 already, right?

You're right Ginger. DH and I have a budgeted amount that we are allowed to spend each month. I struggle to stay within budget, but that's a different story. After this purchase, and the super cool Macpac jacket I bought the other day, I have am now sitting in my June budget. DH doesn't know this, so shhhh. But this is exactly why I need to make them free....
Anyway, I digress. My point was that my budget is higher than DH's, because there is an extra portion in there for the maternity clothes i'll need to buy. DH is going mad because I am spending ALL the money and not buying said maternity clothes. He doesn't really fly with the logic that when I DO get pregnant, I'll spend all of my budget (that I don't have) on maternity clothes, therefore it's cool to not be saving it now.
Men. They don't understand....

Spot on Laurie
I'm beginning to think I might need to patent my system ...
I had a friend email me the other day and say that she'd bought an expensive cardy during her lunch break and could I help her justify it? We managed to make it free quite easily. It's all about thinking outside the square! [:*]
I'm exactly the same as you with budgets - I made myself a clothing budget for winter at the start of the season, and I've already spend about 150% of my budget, and winter hasn't even started yet I'd completely finished my shopping too, but somehow managed to come back from holiday with a new pair of pants and a top (and a whopping VISA bill!!), and that was with me being sick for half the holiday! Woops.

Yeah, DH just shakes his head and sighs.
Do you know how much stuff I have to sell on Trade Me just to fund my shopping habits?!?

Lucky for them you're in Auckland and I'm in Wellington!
Unlucky for me... I could do with a serious shopping buddy.
