Topic: When you shouldnt laugh Posted: 26 January 2011 at 7:12pm |
I've had three parenting moments today when I really knew I shouldn't laugh but just couldn't help it.
First was S driving the car with his feet on the bottom of the steering wheel and his hands on the top, now I'm pretty sure a 13kg preschooler hanging off my steering wheel like that is not good for the car, the car I only got on Sunday as well but it was so funny I couldn't help but laugh.
Second was K in time out repeating over and over again "I don't want it, timeout, I don't want it, timeout", I did try this time to laugh out of sight but S saw me laughing so he thought it was funny which K noticed and was enough for him to play up on it even more.
And thirdly S ate all of about three mouth fulls of dinner before pushing his plate towards me and announcing "I've had enough dinner give this to the dog" I think if he had called the dog Leela not "the dog" I could have kept a straight face, but nope I failed and this will probably be a dinner time ritual now!
What are some of your moments that you just couldn't help but laugh at?

Jae has just started smacking people to get their attention... only when we go to tell her off, she turns around and pulls THE cheesiest grin out there... neither DP or I can hold the giggles back!

So cute about the dinner lol!
We've had a few moments today....
This morning I come out of the bathroom and there is miss 15mth old with the scissors and her new dolly trying to work out how to cut its hair (thanks Dad for showing her that lastnight!)
This arvo a totally tired DD had a massive meltdown walking away from DH and I crying and throwing herself on the floor, she just seemed so silly as there was nothing wrong that DH and I just ended up laughing at her, what else are you meant to do with a grizzling child right....
And lastly, giving Nana a huge smooch and hug followed by a big whack around the face.... shouldn't laugh but was so cunning lol!

lmao Hannahbil, that sounds like Miss 19 months here, she'll sidle up to DS and 'pat' him nicely on the head like a cat... but if he ignores her, he gets a smack instead!!

After playing in our bedroom (and in our bedside tables), my son ran into the lounge singing into something that wasn't exactly a microphone (IYKWIM)

I was inocently sitting on the couch watching my DD play when she stood up and started pointing at me saying "Don't" x100 she went to walk away and spun back around with one more Don't and off she went. UM not sure what I did wrong???
I just ignored her as its not something I want to encourage but was laughing on the inside.

Omg MrsH haha, mortifying!!
DS has such a bad habit of biting when he's tired.. and not a little bite, he'd break skin if you give him half a chance. We say sternly 'no biting' but he thinks it's funny.
He also has a habit of leaning over and putting his head down on the couch/a pillow/your lap at any time and just laying there and talking to himself.
Anyway, he will be playing nicely and come up and give you nice cuddles and smile at you and giggle and you think 'oh how cute, he's giving me cuddles' then quick as lightening when you least expect it will lower his mouth to your leg/neck/arm/foot and open his mouth so wide and take a big chunk of skin.. it's SO painful but the way he does it so cunningly I just can't help but laugh (especially when it's to someone else like DH and you see it coming before they do haha)

 That is HILARIOUS!
Jude was walking around with Durex instructions this morning after being in our bedside cabinets......
I'm quite bad at laughing at Jude when he throws a tantrum - he runs at the nearest thing to him and picks it up and (sometimes running as fast as he can, sometimes stationary) throws it at the ground as hard as he can (not very hard)....
And when he tries to get a rise out of DP by chucking his food off the tray. He looks at DP and slowly and deliberately throws his food off the side - all the while looking straight at DP and then giving a cheeky grin. I try so hard not to laugh and to hide it when I can't help myself.....

OMG this and the "microphone" incident had me laughing so hard I had to wipe away tears! Not sure why - I'm going to blame it on the hormones.

We have a little performer and if he gets a reaction then he will keep doing it - especially if its funny!
I am getting a lot of "be patient mummy" when I ask him to do something
I was sitting on the toilet, with my little shadow in the room (as per normal) and he pulled at my knickers and said " whats this mummy?" (I had a panty liner in my knickers) and my repsonse was obviously dismissive - then he said "when you are finished mummy dont forget to pull your nappy up"....cheeky toad.

Lol that is so funny.
DD did a similar thing. I was talking on the phone in my bedroom and wasn't taking much notice of what DD was doing, next minute I turn around and there is a "microphone" sitting next to me on the bed.

Miss M does everything and anything I do, she helps we with baking, sometimes this includes starting without me, with the flour and occasionally the eggs too
sometimes she 'helps' me in the garden when Im not watching
After I bought her baby sister home she showed My 85 year old nana 'mummies nappies'
she went swimming in her beautiful new fairy costume on christmas day
tipped poo all over the back step and stood in it in her new shoes and then dropped the potty in it too (teach me for being lazy and tipping her wee out there)
It is a pain to clean up after her, but the sheer joy in her face doing these things is priceless, its worth every minute and sometimes every cent
so now the baby is here I get, I cant just now mum but I will be right with you
