from my first gynaecologist appointment?

Last September I went to my Dr, because DH and I have had no luck in TTC. She put me on the public list for seeing a gynaecologist. That appointment is next week, but I don't really know what to expect (although they're supposed to be sending some info out).

However, in the meantime DH and I paid for an appointment at Fertility Associates back in December. The ultrasound and blood tests seem to indicate I'm 'good to go'. DH's sample was also very good.

Would you tell the gynae all this info, or let them draw their own conclusions?

Hey there,
Sorry cant' give you much advice on what to expect from the Gynae, however I think if it was me I would go armed with all the information that you know already. My logic on that is personally when I go to my FA appointment in March, I want that to be the point where everything starts to happen, and wouldn't want to then be sent for the tests we have already had done and delay things.
Are you perhaps able to get a copy of the results from FA and take them with you, and then they can interpert the results in the way they want.

Good luck!

Thanks for your advice.

I have a copy of the results from FA, so I will take them along with me next week - as that is a good point about not having tests I've already had done.

I am 36, and have already been trying for nearly 2 years... so don't want to waste any more time.

Hi, yep definitely take all of your results with you. Have you had lap surgery to check for endo? If not that is likely to be the next thing they will want to try.

they will ask all your history eg when did Af start, how are your cycles, how long, how heavy, how regular etc.
ask about forms of contraception you have been on, any pregnancys that have occured (the duration, how they ended/birthed etc). how many sexyal partners you've had. if your TTC how long for and how do you feel about that time frame, and do you feel you need help)

they may do an internal to check it all 'looks ok' and to paplate uterus and cervix (something about pain during this could indicate endo)
if your smear is out of date/due soon they may do one for you while they are 'in there'
and they may run a full STD check (if you agree) as some Std's can hinder fertility.

they covered everything! and i was offered clomid when i informed them i wasnt ovulating and my cycles were every 20days (but i wasnt TTC so declined the offer)

Hey Hopeful, I have just been through this and I found my gynae really good. I met her for the first time about 2 weeks ago. She went through my history and asked about DH etc, pretty much all the things that have been mentioned above.
My gynae did an internal to check everything.

She also told me about the next steps. So for me, she wanted me to get my day 2 and 21 bloods done (again, just to be doubly sure I was ov'ing) and check other hormones. She also sent me for an ultrasound which I got done yesterday and my DH to have his swimmers tested. As you've already done this, they may move you onto the next stage. Did you get a disc from your ultrasound of all the scans? I got one and it said to take it along to all my future appts so its probably really helpful.

The next stage for me if everything comes back all clear is to either wait for another couple of months for nature to do its thing.... (tick, tock!) or she will prescribe me a low dose of clomid to hopefully kick start things. If a few cycles of that doesn't work, she will refer me for a lap to check for endo, blocked tubes etc.

Sorry that was long, maybe thats where you'll be up to?

One extra test that might happen at one stage is a check that your cervical mucus is not hostile to your DH's sperm..that is a post coital test...that might be down the track tho.

I had internal ultrasounds to look at my ovaries and all that jazz, and then had those for a cycle i think every 3 days or something to make sure that my follicles were growing at the right rate.

Umm....I think everyone else has covered that other tests we had.....

Good luck..it feels really good to get the ball rolling hey!

For those who are interested, had the appointment this afternoon. She couldn't tell me anything more than FA told us, but is sending me for the xray to see if there are any tube blockages.
