I have started expressing milk so DH can give DS a bottle in the evenings.
I just am not sure how much milk an 8 week old generally has each feed.

How much does/did your baby drink at 8 weeks of age?

I'm not sure how much DS was getting in total (as he did, and still does, have a breastfeed followed by a bottle each feed), however my formula tin says 2 weeks to 2 months - 120 mls, and 2 months to 4 months - 180 mls. He has always drunk a little more formula in the evening that during the day so I would probably err on the higher side for a start.

I would say roughly 150mls? DS drinks between 100ml and 150ml, sometimes an extra 50ml after his last bottle at night if he is still hungry.

If it's at night, he might take less if he's a cluster feeder - littler and more often.

As a general guide, the doctors at the hosp here use this:

For an 'average' healthy baby, they need 150ml per kg over a 24hour period.
So you probably feed on demand, but I would say break it into 6 feeds a day.
eg:
weight x 150mls / feeds per day = mls needed per feed
5kg x 150ml = 750ml
750ml / 6 feeds = 125ml
So 125mls per feed per day.

Hope this helps. Please note that this is just a guide, all babies are different, all breastmilk is different, various health issues would change this, and there are completely different equations for prem/underweight babies.

Hope this helps!

Great, thank you so much everyone.

I expressed off 125ml, and he took it all, then had a small breastfeed afterwards, so think I will try 150ml tomorrow and see if that satisfies the wee man.

I expressed off 50ml blocks and so would give 50mls and have a spare 50mls as back up if she wanted more, sometimes she would and if she was still going strong and only 20mls left say then I'd get the next bottle ready and go form there...
