Well I bit the bullet and finally had a Mirena inserted yesturday...and today I have the strings poking out into the outside world!! Unfortunatly as it's the weekend the hosp cant put another one in so I decided to wait til monday to have it taken out and replaced (cant go to dr as have to have a specialist, and be sedated - long story).
Ummmm this may be TMI so be warned but I thought I had better have a feel to see if I could feel the actual device, and I can't. I can feel the strings going right up and then I think I can feel my cervix but it seems to be enlarged like maybe the device is still on the other side??? Is that even possible considering the strings are actually poking out, 1 of them by about an inch or so?! not sure what it would actually feel like but I was expecting to feel something hard and plasticy.
I have a bit of cramping pains and the strings keep poking me which is pretty annoying but other than that i'm fine.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Um go to the hospital, they can scan to see where it is sitting and if it needs to come out they will take it out.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Yes....I put up with it for 6 weeks until I got it taken out. I kept getting my strings trimmed & I had bleeding the whole time.

I got mine put in 6 weeks post baby so obviously still a little "loose" I didn't bother with the scan, I just got it pulled out & it came out really easy so it wasn't in properly. I was not going to keep it in if it was in the right place so I didn't bother with the scan.

So it doesnt necessarily mean it's coming out then, it could just be that the strings are ridiculously long?? Can I poke them back up somehow??

They have these special scissor things to trim the strings. If I was you I would just wait until Monday to see a dr and get them to check where it is. In the mean time just leave it alone and go to hosp if you get severe pain or bleeding.

Usually the threads are looped up, so they could have just fallen down??

I'd definitely get a scan to see where it is, then it's peace of mind if it's in the right place.

Also just had a thought. My cervix comes down really low at times during my AF (use moon cup so am aware of cervix position) so I imagine it would do the same at different points in my cycle. So it could be to do with that? I'd definitely give the nurse at your Dr's a phone tomorrow & have a chat about it.

my Dr told me she didnt trim the strings and would do it at the 6 week check up as it would all have settled by then.
she didnt need to trim them as when my cervix closed up it took the strings with it but the device is still in place as a scan showed...and im not pregnant yet so its obviously working
