Tipping the cot helps, but only until baby is mobile enough to turn around and sleep downhill!! Not sure how much of a wriggler you have, but we eventually had to give up on it which was a shame because it did help.
For us, the problem didn't let up until we finally got grommets after 6 months of screaming
We had her in our bed for about 6 weeks when she and I were both sick and I didn't have the energy to get up to her. We still tried to give her day sleeps in the cot (if we got a daysleep, sigh), and then one night we just decided it was back in the cot time and she was surprisingly ok with it. I still co-sleep on occasion when she's miserable, but it's not been a big deal to go back to her cot. She didn't sleep great in her cot, but she wasn't sleeping great in our bed either!
