Hi there, my hubby is off to L.A for work in a couple of days and I'm hoping he can get a bit of shopping in too!

Am I right in thinking baby clothes are cheaper over there? How about shoes? Any particularly good brands to scout out? Advice greatly appreciated!

Are there any other products that are best to buy there? I'm thinking books are probably a good deal...

Thanks!

My mum sends me clothes from Nordstroms and they are very nice, she only buys the ones on special tho as they are expensive. Macys have a lot as well, mum also buys stuff from old navy and GAP.

I know the Norstroms and Macys clothing is good quality and the GAP clothing I have is but I havnt tried the baby GAP or old navy clothing yet as DS is too small (mum sent 6month old clothing). One thing I have found is that the sizing is different. The clothing sizes are different to NZ. DS is too big for the newborn sizing but doesnt fit the 0-3 months yet, the pants literally fall off him. Not sure bout the older sizing.

Mum says the clothes are cheaper and Ive found that the stuff she sends is different to what I can find here and we get a lot of good comments about the clothes when he is dressed in them.

Mum has brought lots of toys at cheaper prices here. She brought my neices some disney princess tents for their beds. From what Ive seen, a lot of the stuff is different to here.

We liked carters and osh kosh when we were over there, and there are outlet malls around LA for your DH to shop at, Toys and babies r us are well priced, obviously depends on how the dollar is doing as to whether you are getting a great bargain.

I'm not sure about clothes, but toys are WAY cheaper! DH just went for a conference, and I had bim bring me back a Jumperoo. You can't get this model in NZ (which I liked because it's nice to own something a bit different), but the rainforest one sells here for $300, we got it for about a quarter of that as it was on special when he bought it.

I just did an online order at Toys'r'us (with the help of a friend and her American credit card) as I wanted it delivered to his hotel - DH wasn't as obliging as your hubby and didn't have time to shop.

Also have a look around for second hand baby stores. A friend of mine back in the States gets huge amounts of gorgeous, hardly worn clothes. And being LA I imagine there might be some pretty posh clothes on offer if you go to the right area...

Also, think of all the other little things he can cram in his suitcase that are heaps cheaper: dummies, bottles, etc

i second the vote for carters....my aunt and uncle sent heaps of gorgeous stuff when my son was born. there are these fab flannel cotton wraps about the size of a cloth nappy but with awesome designs on them. super handy for so many things and they look a bit more exciting than a cloth nappy too...
